About the Author
Drama teacher Suzi Zimmerman has helped her students win national awards in pageants and talent competitions. She's no stranger to performance! Zimmerman attended Kilgore College, home of the Texas Shakespeare Festival, on an acting scholarship and continued her education at Texas A&M University in Commerce, Texas. Zimmerman eventually founded Theatre Off the Wall, a small acting company, which evolved into her hometown's community playhouse. She found her true love in teaching, but at that time, there were few resources available for middle and high school drama teachers. To bridge the gap, she began collecting and designing her own creative, hands-on lessons and organizational forms and has published them into a collection of books. She has directed and appeared in over two hundred plays and has also appeared in dozens of TV commercials and industrial videos.She is currently a professional actor in US television commercials and films. She resides in Murphy, Texas.

I purchased this book earlier this year prior to teaching 7th & 8th grade drama for my first time (I am primarily an English teacher). While I came nowhere close to teaching out of this book day-by-day, it was an invaluable resource to me. The informational sections were a great resource for me in creating presentations, and I used a number of the readings and activities straight from the book. The evaluation tools were also very helpful. Couple this book with a book on theater games and a couple books of scenes and monologues and you have the foundation for a middle school drama curriculum!
It's a good book with a great syllabus, but the page order doesn't match the suggested syllabus, so it's a bit difficult to navigate. I love that the student handbook is included in full. My biggest complaint is that pages started falling out after a couple weeks so I had to pull them all out and put them in a binder.
As a first year drama teacher this is a great jumping off point.

Although I have been active in theater arts for many years, this is the first time I am teaching a course in it. Save your money, you are going to see this on Kindle Unlimited soon.It's a large-print Q&A of about 20 questions like "why shouldn't I buy in short?". There are much, much better books to spend $20 on, and if you are going to spend the $10 on the Kindle version you could simply type in each question into google and find equally useful answers. There is no theme, coherence or evolution, just 20 answered questions that you could otherwise find the answers to in his videos or online. I wouldn't be surprised if it was ghost-written.If you aren't familiar with James' Youtube videos, they are top-notch and I can't recommend them more highly. Consider me buying your book as payback for watching them for free, James. We are even.

If you are a big fan of James "Splitsuit" Sweeney, this book is a must read. If you are new to him, I can tell you his advice is pure poker gold.James wrote the book in front of a live audience on Skype in one week and I was lucky enough to have tuned in for it. The questions were expertly selected and answered with input from a live audience. The questions that James takes on include, "Making Money in tight games", "When do I hold or fold over pairs", "How to use my table image" and "Hand reading in fishy games", to name a few. I am a big fan of his previous books including the Hand Reading Workbook Poker Workbook: Hand Reading For Live Players Vol 1 both live and online. This is not a weighty tome that will take months to read, but is instead packed full of practical advice aimed at making you a winning player. The book alone is awesome, with its convenient links to additional material, but the audio version is out of sight. Enjoy hours of audio read by "Split" himself to accompany you on your trips to the casino. +EV

Each chapter poses, in clear language, a common question from someone trying to advance their knowledge of the game.
