A lot of celebrities (including Courtney Love) made guest appearances, but the truthful bits are when the author admits that the routine doesn't always work, and that's when you really know you found the one. This book was a very good read. As I began, I felt as if my eyes were finally being opened. There was this whole world I had never known. The were so many ways to pick up and talk to women that I thought would never work, or never even thought of. I wanted to try them all out, but I felt as if I should finish reading before I set out on my endeavors. As I read page after page I became more and more interested. I was seeing some of my coworkers in a new light. They acted just like some of the people in this book, some of which I had looked up to. A little more than halfway through, I began to see what direction this book was going in. I am glad I read this book all the way through. I thought that it was women that I was missing in my life. I needed to become a pickup artist, or so I thought. While it is true that women are noticeably absent from my life, that wasn't the source of my emptiness. It was confidence. It wasn't until the end of book that I realized that I didn't need any fine tuned pickup lines. I needed to just be me, but with more confidence. This book has given me the basic tools I need to start conversations with random strangers, to meet new people, which I had been to afraid to do. So what if they don't like me, the right people for me will. All I need to do is get out there and socialize. While this book still makes me want to go out and try to pickup women, it's not to become a pickup artist. It's to further myself in every aspect of my life. Women are my vice in life, my weakness, I am afraid of rejection and thusly, afraid of women. If I can overcome my biggest obstacle with confidence, then there is nothing I can't do. Even though Neil Strauss will never know of me and never know how big of an impact his book has had on me, his book has unlocked the door to my future that I can now begin to open. "The Game" is a bit like a chameleon in regard to its purpose and how people will interpret it. It is going to be different things for different people. For some it will be a entertaining documentary about an interesting underground community (the seduction one). For others it will be a self help/life changing book. Others a eye opener/oh s*** moment book (particularly for woman who have been targeted with the techniques Strauss describes). And so on. Or maybe all of the above!"The Game" is told through stories/first hand accounts of Strausses experience in the seduction community. He manages to tie in the life/self help lessons in nicely with all the drama of a good story. There's rarely a dull moment but I do have to say that it can seem Strauss is bragging at times and this hurts the flow of the story at times.Personally the book acted as a gateway for me, as I imagine many others, into a much needed self improvement period of my life. I began to realize my self worth, gain confidence in myself and really go out their and make my dreams happen. To look inward for approval rather than bending overbackwards to gain the approval of others.And I think that's where their is a lot of misunderstanding in the public. The seduction community is more than a bunch of creepy pickup nerds trying to bed and use woman. Often men find their way to the community after years of frustration and loneliness stemming from failure with the opposite sex (something they were never taught how to deal with by school or their parents). Maybe they were abused and suffer from extremely low self esteem. Whatever the case guys like Strauss, Mystery (and others) have been there and have done the hard and tiring work of figuring out what the problem is and how to fix it. And now their sharing this knowledge to others to help them. So it's important to have an open mind and not disregard Strauss because of the subject matter he's discussing.I do feel the game leaves you wanting more (perhaps this is by design). I would recommend, actually would require, that you check out Strausses follow up "Rules of the Game". It's much more of a "how to" book and features the style life challenge which is a 30 life changing program. It's the book Strauss could wish he could give to his younger self. Very insightful book! "The Game" was very popular ten years ago & I witnessed many men attempt the strategies. It was so iconic that I referenced it in Part 2 of my mystery novel -- Firm Resolve.No doubt many women find this book misogynistic. However, perhaps reality is more disturbing. Equally troubling is the misapplication of the principles recommended. Too many guys don't actually read "The Game" & take tips out of context. For example, the negs are supposed to be light-hearted & witty -- not blatant insults.Incidentally, in addition to my own copy which I loaned to two girlfriends, I also bought one for a friend. She thought she was dating a jet-setting banker. However, I figured the guy was a con-artist. It caused a rift btw us because I didn't say what she wanted to hear. Luckily, after reading this book, she got over 'her prince,' and married a nice solid guy who works a less glamorous job, but is a good father and husband.So while this book is supposed to be a self-help for men, it's actually a much better book for women. But I'm sure if I read other reviews, I'll see that what I've written is redundant.

I’m a school teacher, and I’ve purchased NG’s Weird But True for Kids books 1-9, and this is not what I expected. It has very small print and is more “factual†than quirky and weird. It’s a great book for factual information, but it’s not like the others in the series. I’m not sure how it got “weird†in the title.
Got it for my little historians 10th Birthday.. loves it
My grandson is fascinated with the history and trivia of our presidents! This is packed with information. On the downside, the font is small and challenging for aging eyes to read to a child.
So much fun and interesting. Extremly humerous and up to date. A Fun read to surely make you a hit at any group gathering.
I love the Wired but True books. I bough5 of them for my sister in law's grandson and working on 5 for my granddaughter. All but the one about the body were great and the little boy can not hardly put them down. Great books for children and I enjoyed them.

I'm a big fan of Gabby's. I have read her other books and followed her on her site and social media for years. I had the release of this book set on a countdown on my phone. I couldn't have been more excited for it...Maybe that was the problem. Maybe because I have read her other books, May Cause Miracles read like May Cause More Of The Same. I just felt like I was reading her first two books all over again with a (very basic) guide added on.It's definitely geared towards those who are beginners on their spiritual path. The 40 Day guide is a great start for beginners, but wasn't what I was looking for, as I've also done similar and more in-depth daily guides in such books as ACIM (of which Gabby is an admitted student), The Magic, and others.I was hoping for something new and fresh, considering this is only Gabby's third book... But i do acknowledge that maybe that's unfair and I was hoping for too much, and that those are simply MY expectations, which isn't a reflection of the book itself. However, I don't think it's reaching too far to expect some new material from a relatively new author. Some clearly disagree with me on this, they're okay with reading the same thing repeatedly. That's fine. I just wish I had known before I paid full price for it. I still like Gabby and will continue to follow her and watch her growth and draw inspiration from her. And I look forward to her future, and hopefully new, publishings.For those who are new to the self-help section, or for those looking for reinforcement material on Gabby's previous two books and A Course In Miracles... This book is a good start.*Edited To Add* - READ BEFORE BUYING BASED ON REVIEWS*I find many of these reviews on this book and comments made on my review disheartening. A large portiom of the 5 star reviews are written by unverified users who have only ever written a review for this book or just of books under this publishing company. A couple of reviews even claim to have completed and been transformed by the FORTY DAY guidebook on January 1st and 2nd... When the book was released on January 1st. I do believe in miracles, but I also believe in reality and I know it's not possible to complete a 40 day workbook properly in 1 day and be transformed.Faking ratings to boost sales is not a new marketing scheme, but very disheartening with this book if that is the case. If you're publishing a book on "miracles" and "trusting in the universe", perhaps you should believe in what you're publishing before you run it through the marketing mill and take people's money. Considering that this book really is just a rewrite of Gabby's other two books and the hypocritical marketing along with it, I half feel like lowering the rating to one or two stars. But I will not because the contents of the book remain the same and I believe in the message. I now just question the sincerity behind the words. Perhaps the marketing team should believe in miracles, too.Conclusion: Be wary of purchasing this book based on the glowing reviews alone. If you are drawn to this book, give it a try. Just don't be deceived by marketing schemes.
I see a lot of negative reviews from people who have read her other books or who did not do the exercises in the book. I bought this book because a friend of mine started a Facebook group where all of us would go through the 40 days starting January 1. I had never heard of her before or ever read anything regarding spirituality, ego or inner guides, but figured that was a good reason to try something new.First off, it is clearly a 40 day guide book(actually goes 42 days to make for 6 even weeks) as labeled, not a novel or definitive text on spirituality. Each week she starts off with a broad focus and then offers specific exercises to go through each day (usually one for morning and one for evening). I would have found no value in the book if I had just read through it and did not commit to completing the exercises. Some of the exercises took as long as an hour to thoroughly complete. It was through theses exercises that I experienced incredible revelations about myself and how I treat others. My experiences with this book will impact me for the rest of my life.If you buy this book, make the commitment to do the work, not just breeze through the pages. I plan to go through the 40 day guide again later this year now that I know how much time to commit to it.
Bought the book and she wants you to meditate to her meditations so I go to the website and you have to pay to do it??? Very misleading and I thought unethical.
Positive thoughts and reflections for 40 days. However if you want to listen to the meditations, you have to purchase them separately :(
If you're not sure which Gabrielle Bernstein book to read first... this is it!! I LOVE that this book takes it one day at a time. This book will change your life. It is a game changer. I still have a lot of work to do on changing my mindset. I could see how this wouldn't be as mind blowing for somebody further along in their journey. If you are looking to let light into your life this book will do that for you.
I downloaded this book to my Kindle app like 2 years ago and read about 2 pages of it, closed it up and didn't look at it again until about a month ago. And boy am I glad that I decided to give it another try!!! I really liked having the audio version but I would have loved it without the narration too. Gabby is so inspiring and teaches some great points on love that everyone can benefit from! I have read two of her books now and I don't plan on stopping there!I would recommend this book anyone who is starting a spiritual journey or those who just need a reminder of why your on the journey- sort of a refresher or fresh prospective!
I have not finished the plans in this book but am going to get back to it.The reason I bought it was because I needed a miracle - I needed to get backto work aftering having spent a month and a half off and burning through my savings.I prepped the first day and did the first days exercises and then I was back to workby the end of the week - the title shouldnt be "May Cause Miracles", it should be"Causes Miracles". Currently I am doing Gabbys "finally full" workshop from her websiteafter having gained 30 of the 20 pounds I lost last summer. I am back on track andagain - am just amazed how easily GB can connect us to our higher selveswhich always has our back! - Yes I have that book also - The Universe Has Your Back!Read them all!!!
Great book! Very inspirational & tactical. So many positive reinforcement books talk about the “why†& the “what†but not the “howâ€; this book is different. I’ve started it and stopped it 5 different times but not because I couldn’t follow along or lost interest but because miracles started occurring so fast after the first week I didn’t have time to finish it! A great guide to making positive change in your life.

Dr. Cabot began her medical career in 1980 as an obstetrician-gynecologist and practiced in Sydney Australia. During the mid 1980s she spent considerable time working as a volunteer doctor at the Leyman hospital, which was the largest missionary hospital in India. Her first book, titled Women's Health, was an authoritative holistic health guide. Subsequently she wrote several more groundbreaking books including The Liver Cleansing Diet, which has sold well over two million copies worldwide. She has written twenty-two other health titles.

I have almost all of Sandra Cabot's books. Disappointed with this one as it is way too general. The information in the book could be obtained via online research. Disappointed with the book.
This book brings together most of the current thinking about prevention of dementia and Alzheimer's and puts it together in an easy to read format. Of course, none of it is totally new, but the reasons for both physical and mental exercise and good nutrition for helping the brain and perhaps slowing down the effects of dementia are well explained. There is a very good section at the end of the book full of useful advice for carers. My only slight reservation is that this book may give false hope to people already well along the path of Alzheimer's, but most of the advice would be valuable for any of us at any age who want to keep our brains healthy for as long as possible.

...because it is a nice object and very enjoyable to thumb through. The binding is failing a bit, but it is an essential in my library.
Funny, but it seems as though every time a new Ed Ruscha book gets released, it then becomes the standard "must-have" edition. In my opinion, this is an excellent book for the price, even if only for a single viewing. What I mean is this: it's more like an object than a book, due to its small area (but thick volume), and lack of publisher information distraction - the absolute first page blatently plunges you into the art immediately. It will take the average art fan a good two hours alone viewing each plate at a contemplative pace. I have had two art shows myself, and Ed's work is by far my closest influence, so I am heavily biased. This book lacks the token interview with the artist, and also his other forms of work (notably the parking lot photography series, which is a sheer delight in its own right), but for the sake of the design, perhaps the book as it is says all it has to say (no pun intended, if you're familiar with his works). Part of the fun, though, with viewing these kinds of Ed's works, is reading his titles and materials used, as they are equally insightful; yes, I miss that. But the average or novice art buff wouldn't even notice it missing. All things considered, this is a great little form of entertainment all contemporary art lovers should own.
Bob Perelman was thumbing through my copy of Ed Ruscha's They Call Her Styrene (Phaidon, 2000) the other evening, which raises the question of intermedia from another angle. Ruscha, if you don't know his work, is a painter and photographer associated with the 1960s Los Angeles scene that proved to be an intersection between Pop, Funk and Conceptual art. His work takes different forms, but Styrene is representative of the works that have most attracted me: prints, drawings and watercolors involving anything from a single word to short phrases, often against backgrounds that are close to monochromatic but which may suggest a picturesque element. Styrene collects some 600 of these works into a single, affordable volume - I've seen individual paintings priced as high as $45,000. My question is this: fine as they are as visual works of art, are Ed Ruscha's text pieces also writing?Ruscha himself has a cryptic, but intriguing comment right at the end of the book: "Sometimes found words are the most pure because they have nothing to do with you. I take things as I find them. A lot of these things come from the noise of everyday life." End of comment.So far as I know, Ruscha has not undertaken to publish these works as writing, nor in the context of writing. As visual art, these works inhabit that territory that utilizes language for its own purposes. Its closest kin in that vein may be the signage of Jenny Holzer, the paintings of Lawrence Weiner, or the poster paintings of Barbara Krueger, but the more densely textual pseudo-philosophical musings of Joseph Kosuth and Art Language aren't entirely unrelated either. Ruscha's prints and paintings make use of color and the illusions of depth and texture in ways that Holzer's do not and his works often lack the overt political commentary one finds in her work and in that of Krueger's. At its most plain, a Ruscha work might consist of white sans serif letters centered against a black background:A HEAVYSHOWEROF SCREWSorTHICK BLOCKSOFMUSICAL FUDGEorWARMAUDITORIUMWhile Holzer has executed some pieces etched into benches, a form that has to recall the (literally) concrete poems of Scottish poet Ian Hamilton Finlay, Ruscha's droll texts strike me in many ways being better writing. If, that is, they are writing at all. The last text above, for example, makes great use of the recurrence of the a, r and m sounds (not to mention the echo of the w one hears in the two instances of the u), an attention to the smallest of details that might be more apt to associate with the poetry of Robert Grenier. Microwriting such as this can invoke every pleasure one expects from the best of poetry. The first two pieces above aren't bad either - both use the same strategy of invoking a single term that is "out of context" in its phrase (screws and musical), which functions to set the language around it into a kind of relief, classic demonstrations of what the Russian formalists called ostrananie, Brecht "the alienation effect," and which Pound characterized as "making it new."In addition to reminding me at moments of Grenier, some of the more visually complex of Ruscha's pieces, where richly textured "3D" words float in idealized pastel skies, remind me of how Hannah Weiner used to describe her visual hallucinations, words that would appear on people's foreheads that to her seemed to be composed in "dog fur" or similar materials. Weiner used these messages to create her "clairvoyant" works, although that aspect of such found language is not carried through her writing - the closest she gets is to occasionally "erase" some lines of certain letters.All of which makes Ed Ruscha's texts function as an intriguing test of the boundaries of writing - how can a lone word such as "fud," written in what looks like white ribbon on an intense red surface (onto which the letters cast shadows) function as a poem? It can / It can't / It can / It can't - like a Necker cube or other optical illusions, the text strobes in and out of the realm of literature (though it always remains within the realm of the visual). It may be that this flicker effect is precisely Ed Ruscha's contribution to writing.

I enjoy it very much. As you sit and thumb through all of the pages, each word or group of words, combined with the colors on the background, conjur all sorts of thought and feelings inside you.For me, it serves very well to just sit and thumb through it, looking at all the pictures and letting my mind wander as the book prescribes.Its wonderful.
I gave this one to a friend who never heard of Ruscha before. He loved it. It's a little unpretentious experience through Ruscha's world. It's not that kind of 7-colour-printed-on-coated-expensive-paper, but works very well as good entertainment and a valid introduction to west coast fine artists. Worth its price.

A lively, perceptive view of Asia--an astonishingly vast range of countries included--in the mid-1980s, and even more valuable because it contains an epilogue which moves into the twenty-first century. Iyer approaches each country from a different perspective, then ties it all together in his conclusion. I appreciate the open-ended quality of this study, which reflects the breadth of vision and understanding of the author.An endlessly fascinating book!
As I was reading, I couldn't help but think Iyer was trying to prove his point too much by rattling away with endless examples of globalism and American influence on Asian countries. Ok, so you can order guacamole in Indonesia. You can eat burgers in Nepal. Kids breakdance in Beijing. There are Philipinos singing Frank Sinatra in karaoke bars in the back alleys of Manila. We get the point. As an expat living in Asia, these things are a given, and in Asia 2010, I am surrounded by American culture everyday. But then I realized my gripe was based on one thing--the year 2010.Video Night in Katmandu on the other hand, was written in 1989, and it was a very different world then. Internet had barely a presence in Asia at that point, and only the rich had mobile phones. Online streaming movies and music were non-existent, and current and reliable world media in countries like China and Burma (or even Thailand, for that matter) was shaky at best. It's amazing to think how much things have changed over the last twenty years due to technology. Actually, it's a bit scary.Overall, the book is a quaint reminder of what once was, but its commentary on American influence in Asia seems to lack the punch it may have once had. That said, Iyer's writing is eloquent, and his cultural insights struck a good balance between humorous and heartfelt; a balance I hope to find in my own travel writing. I particularly enjoyed the Thai and Burma sections, and his final chapter, where he gives updates about some of the characters he met along his travels.
HIghly recommend this book to anyone who has studied abroad, loves traveling, and/or wants to travel. His insights into the culture and people he meet encourage the reader to think more deeply about the people you interact with when traveling.
Pico Iyer has a great writing style you are there with him on his travels.
Pico Iyer is a writing star. His lyrics flow, his thoughts captivate. The book is slightly dated, but still worth reading and thinking about or studying if you want to be a travel writer.

the way my son acts when getting him to read you would think I was torturing him. Yes, I would bribe, oops I mean set rewards, ok bud you have to read 30 min to play on xbox 30 min okay FINE 1hr on xbox for 1/2 hour of reading and still he would act as if I was torturing him...With the Diary of a Minecraft Iron Golem he has read on his own because he wants to see what is going to happen next and it holds his interest without my persuading him which is truly saying something.
This was such an adorable Minecraft story about the Iron Golem, Aron, and his journey and adventure in his everyday life. He was exciting to follow as he is very enthusiastic and joyful creature. I think this is perfect for kids maybe my only small gripe is the lack of pictures but nevertheless I don't think it matters much. I still found the storyline good and easy to understand and imagine.
This is a very awesome book! I recommend everyone to get this book if your kids like minecraft they would really appreciate you for this. I can also say that the author of this book had a creative mind and very talented. The storyline is perfect and its an easy read for all ages. I really enjoyed reading this book.
My son says it's a good book and says you should let your kids read it. He said it's only a bit funny, but that it is an adventure book.
