Incredibly helpful. I'm a first-year medical student, and I struggled with Immuno. My TA recommended this book as a high-level overview that could help me develop a framework for the detailed information we were learning in class. She was right. This book gives some color and interest to the otherwise dry alphabet soup that is introductory Immunology. The writing is clear and engaging, and it ends up feeling like you're reading a story rather than a textbook.
I bought this book as a first year medical student when my understanding of immunology was very weak. Even after the course was over, my grasp on the topic was so poor that I couldn't pass my final. Desperate to pass my remedial exam, I purchased this book on the recommendation of a couple classmates, and I am so glad that I did. This book really breaks down the first year medical immunology class into a very easy to digest (and dare I say enjoyable!) and CONCISE explanation. Don't be fooled-- this book has a lot of detail in it for being so thin. It reads like a story, following a logical order as it takes you through the steps of immunological development and the variety of immune responses of the human body. The unique story-like format spares no explanation so you don't have to memorize all those little details; rather, they just make sense! Be aware, however, that this is basic/normal immunology-- it doesn't delve into a lot of pathology. It's perfect for the struggling M1 student, or as a way to stay engaged and interested in the topic throughout the course.Before getting this book, I neither understood nor liked immunology. Now I understand it and enjoy it. Major props to Dr. Sompayrac.
In 1998, I wrote the first edition of How the Immune System Works because I couldn’t find a book that would give my students an overall view of the immune system. What was missing was a short book that tells, in simple language, how the immune system fits together – a book that presents the big picture of the immune system, without the jargon and the details. This, the newest edition of my little book, continues that tradition. For the fifth edition, I’ve updated all the lectures to include the latest information. I’ve also added a new lecture on the intestinal immune system. Our knowledge of how the immune system deals with the trillions of bacteria, viruses, and parasites that inhabit our intestines is still evolving. However, enough is now known to see the rough outlines of how this important arm of the immune system works. In addition to this new material, I’ve also made some “style changes†that I think will make the fifth edition even easier to use. For example, I’ve included a short “Heads Up!†section at the beginning of each lecture to alert my readers to the important topics that will be covered. Also, essential words and phrases are now highlighted in red where they first appear in the text, and a summary of important concepts is included at the end of each lecture. Although How the Immune System Works is used as the textbook for some immunology courses, I suspect that most students buy this book and then carry it around in a brown paper bag – so their professor won’t know what they are reading in order to make sense of the lectures! Indeed, How the Immune System Works has become a bit of a cult book, as thousands of students have used it to help them master this difficult subject. I’ve been told that I even have a “fan club†on Facebook. How cool is that? I believe this fifth edition is the best one yet. I hope you will think so too.
Had to buy this book for class. The material is clearly explained in simple terms which is really helpful especially for a topic like immunology which tends to be vocab heavy and intricate. Really easy and pleasnt read!
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. I had listened to several lectures on the immune system and was still overwhelmed but this book cleared up a lot. The author's enthusiasm for the topic is encouraging. He uses many memorable vignettes to help the reader understand. I hope I can find more books as useful as this in my studies.

With lively language, this books helps you to understand the key concepts and build an clear overview for immunology, so you are ready for further readings.
This book was a great primer to read before the immunology course in medical school. It makes no assumptions that you know the different parts of the immune system and introduces all the key players so that you have an overview of How the Immune System Works (see what I did there) before you attend the lectures/watch Kaplan videos.
Heaven-sent.If I had known. If I had known... this book existed when I struggled through immunology during my first year. Sweet goodness my life would have been so much easier when I waded through those trenches of cluelessness. Seriously *the* best immuno book I have read for a general overview of "need-to-knows" during medical school. I could have read this text in 5-7 days and simply sat in class and allowed my professors to reinforce information.I found this book towards the end of my immuno-micro course (3-wks at my school) and became pretty upset by how great it's written and the fact I had no idea it existed 2 weeks prior :(. I'm actually reading this the month before my step 1 study period starts to really learn immuno.Excellent Resource for Medical Students.

About the Author
Anne Catherine Emmerich was born to poor parents at Westphalia, Germany in 1774. When she was twenty-eight years old she became an Augustinian nun at ulmen, and apparently began to experience ecstasies as a result of spiritual favors. She received the Stigmata in 1813, confined to her bed, and reportedly convinced a vicar-general, Overberg, and three physicians of her sanctity. She later reported that she had seen visions of Christ and the souls in purgatory as a child, as well as a circular core with three sections representing the Trinity. Wow! So interesting to read! One of the things I have always hoped for when I get to heaven is that God has a "photo gallery" or "film" so we can see how all of history really looked. What did the Garden of Eden look like? And Noah's Ark? And the Tower of Babel? Anne's gift of spiritual visions allowed her to automatically "see" these things as she heard the stories. As a little girl, she assumed everyone else could see these things as clearly as she did, but then she learned that is not the case. Her visions add so much depth and shed light on many points of sacred scripture. A lot of wonderful things to meditate on, and a lot of new perspective to help teachings "sink in."
I read this cover to cover and it is spectacular. So many little questions answered. I cried, I laughed, I was amazed, I was delighted. Finally, by the end of the book, I felt gratitude. Jesus was no longer this person I read about, but my God, my brother, and my savior. And when Mel Gibson made his movie based on the Passion part of this book, I recognized the little tidbits of background from the book. Buy it now. Don't wait. You will want this in your library forever.
Helps you to understand the human side of Jesus , Mary and other biblical people. I truly believe the visions of A.C.E. and how the ancients of long ago adapted to their environment. The actual birth place of Jesus makes complete sense. What I really liked was learning that Jesus created a game to play at the wedding at Cana. How cool is that!! There are too many incidents to describe all of the happenings when Jesus and Mary were here on this earth. It's a must read if you really want to know about the real Jesus, his mom and all who came in contact with Him. I've read particular chapters over and over again. This is a magnet of a book because I'm not that much of a reader. It takes a really good book to keep my attention!
I LOVE THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY'S LIFE. THIS BOOK IS INDEED A REFLECTION OF WHAT TRUE HOLINESS IS. TO LIVE A HOLY LIFE YOU MUST BE READY TO WITHDRAW FROM WORLDLY ATTACHMENT AND EXERCISE THE HABIT OF TRUE CONTEMPLATION.
I read all four volumes of The Life of Jesus Christ and was stricken with awe. This book does the same for his Mother, Mary. Very detailed regarding people cities, sin, dress, hair and food! And more....really fleshes out the bible.This book far exceeded my expectations.
Excellent private revelations! Eye opening details; fills in the blanks of some scriptural stories without in any way effecting the substance and message of the Bible. As an example, until I read these revelations, I never understood why, when Isaac blessed Jacob instead of Esau, he couldn't just take it back and give it to Esau as he originally intended. The "blessing" wasn't just words, and when Isaac passed it on, he couldn't take it back. This "blessing" had been passed down from the time of Adam, from whom it was withdrawn, but later returned to humanity and passed down through Noah and his eldest son, Shem. A great read!
Loved the book but returned it because it was just to large and clumsy to read :-( It was text book in size, thick and approximately 8" X 10" which is tough to curl up with in bed or in my favorite chair. I've read AC's revelations on the Blessed Virgin Mary and also the Dolorous Passion of Our Lord which I found extremely insightful, and especially helpful when meditating on these mysteries.
Visions of Anne Emmerich is beautifully written. The ebook, the lines of words don't all go across everly. This does not bother me at all. If one line is shorter then the other so what. The paragraph are lined correctly.As for the visions she saw, I wish I've have read her book sooner. My sister told me about her years ago. And I never read her book. Or about her.Saint Anne IS a saintly dove.

I will graduate law school in 6 months and this is the worst textbook I have ever had.Pro: It provides hundreds of great sample questions.Cons: 1) There are only a handful of the sample questions that the book provides answers for. 2)The content could be broken down much better (i.e. to find out what is required to be a holder in due course you must read about 40 pages). 3) It sometimes lacks a good introductory paragraph that provides an overview for each topic (i.e. it dives straight into the meat of the matter without telling you where you're going or why). 4) It also doesn't do a good job at defining any of the terms used in commercial law. 5) Lastly, it constantly is referencing you to the UCC (i.e. for holder in due course the book states "The basic definition is found in §3-302(a), which you should read carefully." and doesn't provide you with either their definition or the UCC definition.If your class requires this book, I highly suggest buying Gilbert Law Summaries for both Commercial Paper and Secured Transactions. They provide excellent summaries of the topics covered in the Problems and Materials on Commercial Law and provide sample T&F questions as well as essays (both with detailed answers). If you're looking for a book to teach you about commercial law, I would look elsewhere.
There are plenty of example problems throughout the book, however all of the rules are not explained in the chapters. You have to use the code references in the problems to hunt for the answer and find the nuance to the rule. Most of the time they're accurate, but some were out-of-date. I would have given it 5 stars if the answers were supplied, however since they were not, the book may be of limited use to students who otherwise don't have access to check their answers.
PROFESSORS: Choose another book. Used this book for a class. It does not explain the concepts as thoroughly as needed. I ended up buying several supplements as study aids. I also do not like how it does not include an answer key for students who wish to self-check their answers.
Couldn't really follow the plot, poor character development. But when people see it on my shelf they assume I'm smart.
Useful guide to learning a new subject. The problems are very helpful in understanding the substance of the tech.

The software installs ok - although it makes you install Microsoft VM (MSFT's version of Java that they were forced to recall after litigation), and disable Sun Java. This may not matter to some as not too may websites are written in Java anymore - they use Flash. it really bothers me that I was forced to install an archaic, unsupported JVM to run this program.The book did it's job - it taught me the basics of G-Code. I was disappointed that the simulator did not understand some g-codes and required spaces between each parameter.I wish I read the previous reviews - I would have saved $50. Now to fix my computer . . .
This was a textbook required for a NC class I was taking. Didn't use it much, but from what I did use of it, it is a bit dated for the more modern machines in use now. It does give you some good basics, and machine G & M codes don't change over time so it is good for that. The software included with is is old, the CNC-EZ program is back from the day of DOS prompts, but it will work on Windows XP 32 bit, but don't hold your breath for it to work properly with Windows 7.
The book is great for any engineering student or anyone who wants to generally learn GD&T. It includes easy to understand diagrams and problems that make the material inside the book relevant. however, this is not for the unlearned, if you are a beginner or a 1st or 2nd year engineering student and have not taken advanced graphics of drafting this is very complicated and hard to follow without the background knowledge.
I could not get the simulators from the CD to run. I have the most recent associated software updates and a well-maintained virus-free newer computer. I saw a disclaimer somewhere while struggling with trying to get the simulator to run that it may not operate correctly with more current versions of bla-bla software, so I'm not sure. Anyway, if the software that comes with this book can't be made user-friendly enough to run with a minimum of hassle, then it's not much good to me. Yes, I will try to get one of my computer expert buddies to assist, but should I really have to do that after paying good money for this book/CD??
Was not aware it was used.
The book is an update to the previous edition. Unfortunately, everything you needed to know can be found in the original version for less $$. The software is buggy. The Java code is "write once, run maybe" and will not install on anything but certain versions/builds of Windows and internet explorer. Great book for learning G-codes, but buy the first edition at a discount.
The software is very old, won't run on my laptop, but the book meets my needs.
Works great, and a good price. I would definitely recommend this product to anyone. I will definitely use this product again

I've only gone through the first two chapters but what I've experienced so far isn't very enjoyable. This book is plagued by grammatical mistakes which make examples hard to follow and at times has extremely vague instructions. I've had to look at the completed code for every exercise because some items were omitted from the instructions. This book does contain a lot of useful information if you can manage to complete the exercises.
Fair content. But NO CODE SAMPLES AVAILABLE for download online like the author George Taskos indicated in the preface. When opening a ticket with Packt Publishing, they just left the ticket open with no resolution and no response to my follow-ups.Save your money since the cookbook series are where you go for code.Revision: A week later they provided the code download and offered a complimentary ebook. I appreciate and may consider using Packt books in the future.
I'm generally a very positive person - I tend to see the up side, but I am soooo frustrated by this book. Most of the tech books in my library are from Wrox and I'm used to very thorough instructions and explanations. I have spent hours trying to figure out how to do things in this book that should have been made clear in the text. An example: while entering code for 3rd party authentication, the following code snippet was in the book:ClientId = "YOUR_CLIENT_ID", ClientSecret = "YOUR_CLIENT_SECRET". I assume my credentials should be used here - even though the book never mentions it. It does tell you to go to Facebook to get a "key" which FB calls an App ID. So is that the same as the Client Id, or is that the Client Secret? And what are you supposed to use for the other value? The book does not make this clear, so you get to spend time away from learning Xamarin Forms and experiment by trial and error. This kind of thing happens over and over. I'm looking for another book - $32 wasted.
Good explanation almost chapters. Good for beginning step to Xamarin. I like the book and writing technique. Easy to understand.
I've started this book because of a project I was assigned and like every manager he needed the project 'yesterday'.As I was experienced with the C# language I got my project up and running in no time.The book provided me all the recipes and needed explanations.
This book was easy to follow and taught me a lot about the topic. This definitely met my expectations and I hope there are more to come. Maybe on the Universal Windows Platform?
