This is an excellent book to read if you wish to go beyond the initial story of Lucifer who fell from Heaven with a 1/3 of his angels. This was the first angels who fell. So let's see what it says about the first fall of angels that happened in heaven.Revelation 12: 7-9 - And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels, And prevailed not; neither was their place found anymore in heaven. And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and the angels were cast out with him.So the book of Revelation discusses the FIRST fall of angels. This fall happened, because when God created man he asked the angels to bow down to man, whom God had created. Now, Lucifer who was the first created angel, the most beautiful angel, and the closest angel to God refused to bow down too man. That is what caused the whole war that started in Heaven.So this FIRST fall, which cast Lucifer and his angels out of heaven, happened due to pride. These angels later on were called the "Nephilim." Research this word on the Internet and see what you find.And to this day, these are the angels that we fight which is spoken of in Ephesians 6:12 - For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.But Theology schools and ministers will only discuss this FIRST fall of angels from heaven.In this book, it discusses the SECOND fall of angels from heaven. So where in the scriptures do you read about the SECOND fall of angels?Genesis 6:1-4 - And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them, That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose. And the Lord said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years. There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.The above verses discuss the SECOND fall of angels, which were the sons of God, who willingly fell to earth, out of lust for the daughters of men.Now, ministers will say that these sons of God were the sons of Seth who married these daughters of men, because these secret teachings of the church have been held back from the people due to the Early Church Fathers. they called it heretical.What was so wrong with the daughters of men that they could not find men to marry them in their own city?Look at the wording closely. Daughters of men and sons of God. There are two different species being discussed here. What happened to the sons of men? They would seem to go with the daughters of men. They are not average men. They are angels.This was the SECOND fall of angels, who came to the earth willingly, out of the lust for the daughters of men. The daughters of men bore them children and their offspring wee the giants that Genesis 6" 4 is talking about.As the first fallen angels were known as Nephilim, the second fallen angels were known as Watchers or the Grigori. Search Nephilim, Watchers, and Grigori on the Internet and see what you come up with.Lucifer and his angels could not breed and have children, but the sons of God could breed and have children. This is something that has been kept back from man for a long time. This book discusses how all this happened. I did not make up this story. Read the scriptures and research it.The Book of Enoch, which is included in this book also talks about the sons of God who found the daughters of men to be beautiful and took them as wives and they had their offspring. That is why the Book of Enoch was rejected, because the Early Church Fathers did not want to face up to the fact that this had happened.This gives an even deeper meaning for the reason of the flood. It was not all due to men and their sins, although they were very corrupt back then. But God brought the flood because his angels had mated with the daughters of men and created hybrid beings. God had created man, and then these angels came down and mixed the DNA of man with theirs. You can compare this to Star Trek movies and the Prime Directive that they always refer to. That they observe other worlds and species, but they did not get involved with their world or interact with the different species. So the sons of God messed with God's plan for man and his own divine evolution. They broke the Prime Directive. They created hybrid beings. And these son of God taught men all kinds of sin, how to make weapons, and taught them about wars, taught the woman how to find plants and dyes to make up their faces, etc. What the sons of God did was completely corrupt the daughters and the sons of men.So God was in a dilemma. Noah and his tribes were the only righteous beings who had pure human DNA that was not of a hybrid mix. So God made the flood come so that his experiment with man and his own evolution could start all over again. Also, there was another VERY BIG IMPORTANT reason for the flood. God had to ensure that when he had his son, Jesus Christ incarnate on this earth, that there had to be a woman with 100% pure human DNA. In fact, it was God's judgment that the wickedness of their hearts and their works was so terrible that they must be utterly destroyed in the Flood.I will end this from a verse taken out of "The Jerusalem Bible," which also speaks of the Nephilim and the sons of God all being together on the earth at the same time back in that period.Genesis 6:4 - The Nephilim were on the earth at that time (and even afterwards) when the sons of God resorted to the daughters of man, and had children by them. These are the heroes of the days gone by, the famous men.So this is an extremely enlightening book about the two sets of different angels who fell from heaven for different reasons.I hope you will find this information to be of interest on how evil originated here on earth. Information on the fallen angels is not everyone. If you do not have an opened mind this book may not be for you. The author includes 105 chapters of the Book of Enoch, and excerpts from the Book of Jubilees within these 500 pages and provides Biblical parallel scriptures. However, this author's translation of the Book of Enoch is watered down slightly from R.H. Charles' version; however, her material is greatly cited, including many scriptural passages. She does appear to have a thorough understanding of the forbidden knowledge regarding Enoch and the fallen angels and gives us a summary and introduction in the beginning. She also gives us questions to ponder and research, if we choose. The author never suggests that this is the way we all should think or believe. Although it is 500 pages, it is an easy read. A book you can refer back to if need be. But this book is not for people who have been conditioned to believe the Bible is the only source/book in the world worth gaining information and knowledge from. It is for those who believe that there is more to the Bible than what has been written within its pages.

Terrific and well informed book citing many sources for its information. Really wraps together and answers a lot of questions one would have about the Old Testament. Christianity made a huge mistake omitting this from the Bible. How can it be good enough for Jesus’ apostles to quote from but not good enough for the church fathers?
I have got this book and only started to read it...and as I was expecting it to be is a very well detailed and interesting piece of documentation. It is a required taste of reading anyway, it is good if you are interested in finding out about all the cover ups, conspiracies, changes of the scripts of the bible as a great way to brainwash the human kind with lies and false interpratations of the original texts, and also all the evil things done by most of the very well known clerical sects..eg ( Catholich and Jewish etc. ) . This book is a used copy but it arrived in phenomenal conditions and the delivery times were very well respected...over all, 5 stars...i am very happy with it.

Merely perused this book but it helps explain Genesis 6:1-7, about the Fallen Angels, & where the giants came from. Always wondered about Goliath, how he became so big.
Prophet gives us some interesting information about why church fathers surpressed a lot of writings. It helps create a picture of the origins of the church as well as describes some of the paranoia and closed mindedness that was prevalent in the forming of the church. This is a very interesting book.

Alexander Newman, P.E., is principal structural engineer with Maguire Group, Inc., a national architectural, engineering and planning firm, in Foxborough, Massachusetts. This book has useful practical advise for any structural engineer involved building renovation projects. There aren't many books like this one...in fact, I can't think of one other. It contains a wealth of examples and approaches. There is also a lot of useful historical information, such as the history of cast iron making, steel fabrication, concrete, reinforcing....This is the second book by Alexander Newman that I've read. He is a unique individual in the world of structural engineering. I think this guy could have easily become an academic - but, he's down in the trenches with the rest of us working on real world projects. He can write well and obviously has a wealth of experience..
This is the best book I know of on the topic of structural renovation of buildings. Though probably no book could answer every question you might have, the 800+ pages of this book will answer most of them.The author, Alexander Newman, is clearly an experienced expert, so this book is authoritative and has a very practical orientation, with a straightforward writing style, both basic and specialized information on a wide variety of topics, and plenty of helpful illustrations of details which can be used on your projects.I should also add that much of the information in this book is directly relevant to structures other than buildings, so don't miss out on this book if you're involved in renovation of other types of structures.Highly recommended to anyone involved in structural renovation, and worth every penny.
It's a good and informative book. I think most materials are directly or indirectly related to the author experienced. But if you are looking a book which explained example thru calculation and design problems regarding renovation, this book is mostly " an explanation" book, not a design "calculation" one.
Detailed book on many aspects of renovation. Detailed examples, well explained with solid diagrams. Has both the math to some of the more technical issues as well as good explanations of concepts.
I have had to design and manage a number of structural rehabilitations; I wish I would have had this book ten years ago. It is an excellent reference for engineers with both limited and extensive experience in structural retrofitting and rehabilitation.

This book contains some valuable advice and methods for renovating older buildings.
A comprehensive book but with some strange omissions: very little on foundations or restrained brickwork. Also, the section on FRPs looks like it came straight out of a contractor's brochure. But these don't really detract that much. Strongly recommended.

This book shows a large variety of different stitches to try with written and chart instructions. I think it is more for intermediate Tunisian crochet rather than beginner. It does have instructions for the basic stitches, but not as detailed as I have seen in other books.
Very informative with lots of textures to choose from Easy to understand (first time I've tried Tunisian or Afghan stitch, even thought I've crocheted for 40+ years). Now to get a set of longer hooks to make men's sweaters, jackets and cardigans, definitely a highly ignored genre/field in crochet. Men's patterns are few and far between and this book (and vol. 1) are going to help me try to remedy that.
I purchased both Volume 1 and 2. Beautiful well-made books. I especially like that they include both charts and written directions.

I have several translations of Patanjali's yoga sutras - I like this better than some others because he actually includes the Sanskrit as well as his translation. None of the others I have do this. I just really like that I can see for myself what is being translated.

I had a miraculous improvement in just 5 weeks where blood pressure and pulse rate all improved by 15 points. I have a marginal high blood pressure for few years. I am still taking medication. The blood pressure clock has been set back by 15 years in just 5 week. The best blood pressure reading I got today was in Cardiologist's office which was 100/70. Last time I saw that kind of blood pressure was 15 years ago. The acid test will be if I can have normal pressure in 6 months with out medication. My meditation / breathing exercises are based on knowledge gained from other sources.The breathing exercises are called Pranayama (Breathing) Exercises. One can find more about it from various sources. The true knowledge dates back to Patanjali - the original text dates back to approximately 2200 years ago. Interpretation of Patanjali Sutras has also been done by Harvard professor. His book contains 900 plus pages.This book should be read a few pages at a time and contemplate. There is high degree of correlation between mind, stress, body and its functions. It must start with your faith in a system like a mustered seed mentioned in Bible. If one wants to calm their mind - then it a step in the right direction. One need to understand attachment to things around us. There are many commentaries on Yoga sutras of Patanjali written by various Swamiji and yoga practiceners. I found as many as 112 books in the market published as commentaries on Yoga sutras of Patanjali. Most of them are mere translations. Some books are translations coupled with some asana postures. There are very few books stand out. Swami Satchidananda's book is one of them. Philosophy of Yoga can be dry for a cluttered mind. While his book is also more of a translation, he drives the theme of each verse/ sloka by telling a story, which makes the book interesting to read. While simplifying the explanation, he made sure that he drove the point to the reader.
Very earnest commentaries follow the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali at an honest cost, coherent with the spirit of the teachings. Whether or not some of what is explained is in your experience or whether you choose to believe some of the Creation hypotheses, the simple exercisesthat are explained in a simple and straightforward manner are there for you to try and see for yourself as to their efficacy.

My son initially found this at the library- I knew once we had it checked out and at home for a few days we would need our own copy to soften the blow of returning the other one. He was 20 months old when we started reading it, and it's still currently one of his favorites. He calls it "seek"- because the animals are all playing hide and seek at spots birthday party. He loves to lift the flaps, describe the animals on the pages, and point to different objects within the book to say their color. We've got tons of mileage out of this one so far, and I see us reading it for a while to come!
Had this book as a child and had to get it for my sons first birthday. It's perfect! He loves it. He's at the age where he loves animals and flaps, so we read this book a lot! He's not super gentle, but the flaps are hanging in there. They aren't very thick, like some other books he has, but after having this book for months and reading it atleast once a day, they are all intact.
This is a cute lift-the-flap book. I think it's almost as good as "Where's Spot?". I like that there's an actual reason for all these animals hiding in the house (they are playing hide and seek) instead of just no reason given as in "Where's Spot?". I do think the art work is a bit odd. It's nice but it looks like an older style than and the animals seem to have tired bags under their eyes. That's very minor. I will say, the page with Helen the Hippo is our favorite. They did the curtain for the bath so well that my son still tries to open both sides. It's a joke now, but they did do the flap really well on that page.
We have most of the Spot lift-the-flap books, and this one is similar to the "Where's Spot?" one. In this story, Spot's guests at his birthday party are playing hide-and-seek, and Spot is "it". The animals that are hiding are the same ones as in the "Where's Spot?" book...and Spot's mommy is also playing the game. I thought it was too similar, but my toddler likes it, and pulls it out with "Where's Spot?" all the time. The flaps are that thick heavyweight craft paper (like the kind used for scrapbooking) and you may need to pre-fold the flaps so that toddlers don't rip them off right away in their enthusiasm to find the animals with Spot. If the flaps do come off, just use some Elmer's glue to put them back on, dry overnight, and pre-fold on the crease where it's supposed to bend, and it'll be just like new (I've repaired many lift-the-flap books this way).
The kids I work with can't get enough of spot. The lift the flap books and great to keep kids interactive and excited about the story. This book came in perfect new condition as advertised and arrived in a pretty good time frame. Love these books!

This is a moderately entertaining little travelogue written by an American who has lived most of his adult life in Great Britain. The author specializes in sarcasm and can best be labeled a curmudgeon, as he travels from place to place from the southernmost coast of England to the tip (Cape Wrath) of Scotland. He visits numerous small villages and larger cities, making pithy observations throughout.Most of his prose is relatively amusing, but he can’t help but throw in political barbs from time to time, from wishing death to various American Republicans to excoriating British Conservative for not spending enormous sums of money on projects which he deems worthy. The book would be more enjoyable without these gratuitous swipes.All in all, it is very light reading and especially amusing if you have spent some time in the British Isles.
By giving Bill Bryson 3 stars, I feel like I am committing a heresy but I've thought about it long and hard and 3 stars is all this book warrants. I love Bill Bryson's writing, especially his travel writing, but this book is just not up to his standard. It feels like it was thrown together simply as a money-making exercise. There is no underlying thread to the book, there is no journey. It's a series of day trips to places he would have been going to anyway. The underlying theme is supposed to be the "Bryson line" but he barely refers to it after the first few pages and the only places he really visits along the line are the two ends. Most of the other places are nowhere near the line. He also includes a lot of material from other books, either it was in the book or it was stuff he had left over after finishing the book. I'm sorry Bill, you can do (and have done) better than this.
Bill Bryson may be wearing out his welcome. My English friends call him "Bryson the Curmudgeon." Unhappy with the US, he becomes a UK citizen and spends his time in rapture over the countryside and scathing about the people. This follow-on to Notes from a Small Island becomes what PT Barnum warned about: "Never follow an elephant act with another elephant act." In places Bryson is dead-on accurate. I know because I've visited some of the same out of the way places and pubs. But in other places he's simply mean. Maybe it's creeping age.
A very good opening and close were largely out of synch with the rest of the tone of the book. I have read and enjoyed many of the author's books beginning with Notes From a Small Island which I purchased at a small independent bookstore in Manchester England. Time has not mellowed the author, I did not find him to be a "playful curmudgeon" but rather too often being a grumpy old man. I also thought that someone who has so much respect for the English language could find other ways to voice displeasure rather than curse words and foul language. It's unfortunate that so many interesting observations about his adopted home have to be tainted in this way. It makes his apparent affection for the place expressed in the last few pages less believable, or maybe understandable.
I've greatly enjoyed many of Bill Bryson's prior works, but this one left me concerned about the drift to curmudgeonly thinking from focusing on what he doesn't like more than what is likable.Also, often politics enters many of Bill's books but never to this extent. The section on immigration Bill, sadly, embraced a straw man argument to stake out a position no one disagrees with.Being a logical person myself, seeing this descent into the illogical abyss left me wishing I had read a different book.Still, it's got 2 stars because there was a lot of interesting information. I've made 6 trips to the UK and I was often taking a new tidbit of info Bill exposed then looking up more information.My wife is determined to see the Ridley Mounds described in the books. I wonder what future generation will completely misinterpret the structure. This begs the question of how much guessing do we do looking at the many ancient structures. Was it really a super religious site, or someone's fanciful whim, or something in between.I just found it hard to enjoy the fun information combined with the straw man arguments pushing a liberal perspective yet at the same time bashing the actions of liberal government.
On the one hand he is a very funny and entertaining writer; no one can make me laugh out loud while reading the way he can. Also, he is so compelling in his praise and vivid in his descriptions; I really want to visit the places about which he writes.On the other hand, the angry old man stuff gets tiring. His liberal use of the word "idiot" evidences a real inner anger he ought to get under control. A poor government worker just doing their job by enforcing a rule isn't just wrong in Bill's eyes; he is an idiot...some lower being to be scorned for doing his job. It is an attitude the author has, and it is both tiring and troubling.I finally figured it out, though. I love travel because of the people on the way that I meet. Bill loves travel despite the people on the way that he meets.
