It's obvious professional mecha toy artists worked on this book. The book is packed with well-rendered mecha and clear diagrams on the transformation process. You learn how to break down a normal, everyday vehicle and fold it into a robot with a minimum of artistic "cheating" with proportions.While most how-to-draw books try to simplify the drawing of a complex subject, this book attempts to complicate the process of drawing over-simplified mechs. Remember those Go-bots that were neat, but not as complex or organic as the Transformers? Plex designed them and it shows. The book teaches you how to design simple, clunky Gobots and Power Rangers robots that can easily be translated into toys. If this is what you want, this book may be for you. If you want a greater variety of mecha styles to learn, or more inspiration on how to come up with your own styles, I'd recommend the great books by Sherard Jackson of Antarctic Press and the How to Draw Manga volumes translated from Japanese published by Graphic-Sha: "Giant Robots" by Hikaru Hayashi and "Mech. Drawing" by Katsuya Yamakami.The pro-Plex propaganda smattered throughout the book reads like a corporate statement of a company about to go IPO. You shouldn't have to pay so much for a blatant advertisement.Buy the book if you really want to draw transforming robots and like the particular design aesthetic that Plex embraces.
It's an ok book about drawing transforming robots. I got it to get some ideas. It was cheap enough. A lot of broken english. Despite negatives, I would get if you want to draw robots/ make toys.

Not bad if you need tips on drawing robots..... that transform.
The first thing that is readily apparent upon flipping through the book is that the presentation is very straightforward and to the point. There is a LOT of artwork and comparatively little text, which presents a good step-by-step visual tutorial for drawing.There are a great many types of transforming robots discussed in the book, with one or more examples for each. Everything from aircraft to cars to insects to dinosaurs, and more.The art quality is very good, with an obviously professional hand behind the pen.There are a couple things that detract from this book, however. Firstly, there is almost no reference to the mechanics behind the transformations - no hydraulics, gears, etc. The book's origins in the toy business are evident here. Second, there are no references to other mainstream transformers - like Macross Valkyries, Transformers, etc.Even with these minor quibbles though, I still have to give this book 4 out of 5. It can be a very good introduction to drawing transforming robots. Just be aware that it's an introduction, and not an advanced guide!
Maybe the best way to learn to draw transforming robots is to buy and study actual toys & models. But if that's not an option, a book like this can be a great alternative. Many types of vehicles are depicted here; even a brief section on animal mechs.I recently bought three books on robots. A brief comparison:1. Let's Draw Manga- Transforming Robots. 4 stars. The best book of the 3 in dealing with actual transformations. It shows actual photos of toys, and then plenty of pictures detailing the transforming process. The drawing quality is a little rough but still professional. Better drawing quality would've made this a 5-star book.2. How To Draw Manga- Giant Robots. 5 stars. Phenomenal details for all kinds of robots. It's my favorite book of the 3. It has very little on robots that transform, which is too bad, but few books can match the incredibly detailed instruction here with such a wide variety of designs. It's a visually attractive, well organized effort.3. How to Draw Manga- Mech. Drawing. 3-1/2 stars. Great looking cover; the interior art is professional as well. Some drawings are truly excellent, but many are a bit plain looking. It covers the artistic rendering of mechanical vehicles & items of all types, and not just robots. With very little information on transforming mechs, it's still above average overall.As you can see, each book has its strengths & weaknesses. And each is entirely black & white- no color drawings inside. All 3 are worth getting, if you can find a decent price.

And this book showed me that I can take practically any object in this world, and turn it into a robot.By using the techniques they show you in this book, you are able to turn planes, trains and automobiles into any kind of robot imaginable. And with the techniques they show you on how to transform a animal, the possiblities are quite endless, depending on your limit of imagination. By using the tips and tricks they taught me, I was able to transform a PlayStation1 into a robot!I found this book very promising in my future as a manga artist, and I'm sure you would be able to learn as much as I, or even more.

Waste of time
A graphic novel biography of Brazilian soccer player, Edson Arantes do Nascimento, better known by his nickname, Pelé. The graphic novel covers his life as a poor village boy in Brazil who got a love of soccer (and solid training) from his father whose own pro career was cut short by an injury. It then follows his rise to a pro player and national team member for Brazil to his pro years in the US and his years afterward in government and relief aid work.I went into this knowing nothing about Pelé except that he was a famous soccer player from Brazil. His meteoric rise from street soccer to national team is quite amazing. Like most people, he has his admirable qualities, like his passion for kids and aid work, and his not so admirable qualities, like his weakness for women and unfaithfulness to his wife. This book shows both sides, his moments of brilliance and his faults, applauding the first and bemoaning the latter, but keeps the content appropriate for middle grade readers. The book covers a lot of soccer history and Brazilian history in addition to telling Pelé's story, so I feel like I learned quite a bit from just 140 pages. Soccer is hands down the most popular sport among the students at our school, add to that the fact that this is a graphic novel with attractive illustrations and you’ve got yourselves a bestseller. I can definitely see kids who never usually touch books devouring this. Our school library definitely needs this book, the question is how many copies will I need to order to keep the masses happy.Notes on content (based on the ARC): Maybe five mild swear words. It is mentioned that Pelé has a weakness for women and fathers some children out of wedlock, but sex is never mentioned and only a kiss is shown. There are clear repercussions for his life style, his wife eventually divorces him and the creators don’t paint this in a positive light. A couple illustrations show guys in the locker room in their underwear, and an incident is mentioned when fans stripped Pelé of his clothes; he is drawn naked BUT has his hands/arms strategically placed so it doesn’t show anything. Only violence is some on the field rough play shown and some events in news mentioned but not shown.I received an ARC of this title from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I am far from being a sports fan, but I found this graphic novel biography to be very inviting. The panels are boldly and colorfully rendered, and the inclusion of real photography at the end reminds us of the true life at the center of this book.Recommended for sports fans but also for those of us that enjoy a good graphic novel.
You will like this book, especially if you are a sports fan. Pele's skills are so cool! Also, another reason why you should read this book is that it inspires you to have self-confidence, and to follow your dreams.
I have no interest in soccer whatsoever but I do know who Pele is. I usually enjoy biographies about a wide assortment of people no matter their claim to fame as long as the book is about the person, his life, personality, etc. This book didn't succeed in capturing my attention. It started off well enough with young Pele growing up in poverty and showing himself to be an exceptional soccer player. However, once he joined the sport even semi-professionally the book simply became a game by game replay of his life according to soccer. There were sentences and footnotes: oh he got married, oh he cheated on his wife, oh he had a kidney removed. I was totally bored with all the soccer parts which make up 90% of the story. Most recommended for soccer or Pele fans rather than the general biography reader.

About the Author
Robert C. Manske PT, DPT, MPT, MEd, SCS, ATC, CSCS, is a professor in the doctoral physical therapy program at Wichita State University (WSU) in Wichita, Kansas. He graduated from WSU with a bachelor of arts degree in physical education in 1991, received a master of physical therapy degree in 1994, and earned a master of education degree in physical education in 2000. He received his DPT from Massachusetts General Institute of Health Professions in 2006. Manske has been an APTA Board Certified Sports Physical Therapist since 2002, is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association, and is a certified athletic trainer (ATC) through the Board of Certification for the Athletic Trainer. He was a two-term vice president of the APTA Sports Physical Therapy Section. He has received numerous awards for excellence in teaching at the local, state, and national levels, including the APTA Sports Physical Therapy SectionÂ’s Excellence in Education Award in 2007 and the Ron Peyton Award in 2018. Manske has published multiple books, chapters, articles, and home study courses related to orthopedic and sports rehabilitation, and he has been editor of nine books on various topics related to orthopedics and sports. He is an associate editor for International Journal of Sports Physical Therapy and is currently a manuscript reviewer for Journal of Orthopedic and Sports Physical Therapy, Sports Health, Athletic Training and Sports Health Care, Physical Therapy in Sports, and American Journal of Sports Medicine (AJSM). From 2005 through 2007 and 2011 through 2017, he was a principle reviewer for AJSM. Manske has lectured at the state and national levels during meetings for APTA, NATA, and NSCA. In addition to his full-time faculty appointment, he is a physical therapist and athletic trainer at Via Christi Health and also serves as a teaching associate for the University of Kansas Medical Center Department of Rehabilitation Sciences and for the Via Christi Family Practice Sports Medicine Residency Program. At WSU, Lehecka teaches course work concerning the hip and spine regions, posture, gait, proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation, musculoskeletal evaluation, and the treatment of musculoskeletal pathology. In 2016, he was awarded WSUÂ’s Rodenberg Award for Excellence in Teaching due to his outstanding work in the classroom. Lehecka has published multiple peer-reviewed journal articles, authored and edited numerous book chapters, and presented at state, national, and international conferences. He earned his bachelorÂ’s degree in kinesiology from Kansas State University in 2006 and a doctorate in physical therapy from Wichita State University in 2009. Lehecka serves his community as a physical therapist and is a PhD candidate at Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions. Michael P. Reiman, PT, DPT, MEd, OCS, SCS, ATC, FAAOMPT, CSCS, is an associate professor in the department of community and family practice at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina. He is also part of the clinical faculty in the Duke University Medical Center manual therapy fellowship program. Reimann has published more than 50 articles in peer-reviewed journals as well as 10 book chapters and three home study courses. He coauthored Functional Testing in Human Performance (Human Kinetics, 2009) with Robert C. Manske. He has given numerous presentations at national, regional, and local conferences. She has more than 30 years of experience in clinical sports medicine and has worked as a physical therapy instructor for over 20 years. Love the unique hardcover yet spiralbound build of this book. Also really like the skeletal overlay for the images. This book is a great reference for when reviewing mobs and manips. I found it to be a good, thorough text.
Acquired the Kindle Edition with Audio/Video and there no video/audio found on the iPad/iPhone Kindle version, which is contrary to what it is stated above. I quote: "Kindle Edition with Audio/Video: Audio/Video content is available on Fire tablets (except Kindle Fire 1st Generation) and iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch devices."Felt kind of cheated. While I agree with the one bad review that this isn't really a book for beginners, I think it's a great tool for those who aren't proficient. Some knowledge of Spanish is necessary to benefit from the book, and this could match well with duolingo's Spanish program. So if you are a beginner, I would suggest spending some time with the free duolingo app and then supplementing with this book. I think it's a great tool, and I haven't seen anything like this book, so thanks for creating it!!
Since receiving this book 4 days ago, I have worked through the first two chapters. The stories were interesting and held my attention.I enjoy the book's structure. Each story is followed by a glossary, summaries in English and Spanish, and several comprehension questions. The full stories are not available in English.Unfortunately, the book is not written for beginners. I am an intermediate reader and speaker and had to keep my Spanish dictionary app open at all times to frequently look up words that were not contained in the glossary. Another thing to note is that it seems as though the book is written in the Castilian dialect which was, at times, challenging.And, finally, the authors of the book are anonymous. Nowhere does it provide information about them, their backgrounds, or experiences in teaching Spanish.
I love these short stories in Spanish. This one has a great vocabulary list and a story summary after each story. Also a little quiz to help you know what you have understood. These stories are the best way for me to build my vocabulary. And if you need, you can copy from your ebook and paste to iTranslate to get a translation of anything you’re having trouble with. Makes learning Spanish fun.
I love this book!! But, I do not think this is a book for absolute beginners. I have been studying Spanish for a long time with long breaks in between. My biggest problem was that I never had a good book to read to help me deepen my studies. That’s how I learned English by reading books. Finally I found a great book in Spanish. Love the summary in both languages and the vocabulary section. To make it even better I just saw the audible version on this book. Really a great tool to learn this beautiful language.
This is a good book. I'm not sure how to rate it, since I judge the title to be misleading. It is not suitable for beginners, unless you define beginner as that rare, super-motivated individual who plunges right in. The opening story has an extremely high reading level and many different tenses mixed together.When I think beginner I think of a children's book with one or two lines of text and many large and engaging illustrations. Would you start a beginning student in any language with a ninth grade level text? No, I say.
This is a great book for beginners, I have read it several times now. I purchased the audiobook and then received a PDF version of the book ( you get the PDF when you purchase the audiobook). This is a fantastic way to hear the correct pronunciation and get an idea of the rhythm of the language as well. If you get a chance check out Storyling- language immersion website. I really love these Spanish short stories, and it's been a great way for me to practice my Spanish. It's nice that they have a glossary of words at the end of each story. The only thing that would make it better, is complete English translation of each story. They have an English translation of the story recap... but I've had to use Google translate of some of the sentences that I couldn't quite parse out on my own.You do need to know some Spanish to use this, or a dictionary & a translation app.. It's a step or two above where I am in my Spanish skill, but it's pushing me to become better for sure!

I have been Paleo for a bit over a year now and have done without desserts in that time frame. I'm so excited to have a book that is dedicated to sweets! I have a son who is allergic to dairy and a daughter who was just (as in last week) diagnosed allergic to wheat, peanuts, and dairy. She is 8 years old so it's going to be hard for her to adjust. I am glad this book has given me the opportunity to let her splurge once in a while.The only con I see is that there is no table of contents. So you have to flip through each page.I love how this book gives definitions/explanations of the ingredients. I can't wait to try most of these recipes. So many of our favorites like cinnamon rolls, pancakes, chocolate chip cookies, chocolate BIRTHDAY CAKE, angel food cake, and cheesecake just to name a few! This book is amazing!
I wasn't going to buy this cookbook because I have so many Paleo cookbooks, and most of them all have a decent desert section. I am so glad that I changed my mind. This book is absolutely gorgeous. There is a nice balance of re-creations of classic non-Paleo desserts (tiramisu, crème brûlée) and original creative recipes (mixed berries Shiraz sorbet, black bottom pecan torte.)This book is also less expensive than many of the other Paleo books that I have purchased, but it is equally beautiful and informative.One of my complaints about some of the cookbooks put out today is that there are so many fluff recipes, that just seem to be there to add volume to the book. That is not the case with this book! There is not a single recipe in this book that I do not want to make, and what I have made so far (Meyer lemon meringue pie, coconut milk panna cotta) has been amazing.All in all, it is a beautiful, informative book and I highly recommend it.By the way, the desserts that I made were served to non-Paleo people and they had no idea there was anything different about them.
Wife made me a cake for my birthday after just starting out in paleo. Amazing cake. Possibly the best I've ever had. No one could tell it wasn't a 'real' cake. They kept raving about how great it was.

Reading by this book, I found myself arguing against the arguments brought forth in some of the chapters, but it was the final chapter on cosmology that I 'got it', what the author was trying to get at, the true state-of-mind one should have as a scientist or researcher. My only criticism was the delving into the personal histories of the contributing scholars and scientists in each topical chapter (much I already knew from reading other scientific concepts books), but I understand why the author included them.All in all, a most enjoyable read.
Over the years I have followed the evolution of cosmology from Fred Hoyle's "continuous creation" theory until the present. As observation ability and very smart modern thinkers has dramatically to allowed new theories to develop and old ones to fade to quaint ideas, there seems to no upper limit to completely understanding how our universe started and when and if it will end - and what all it consists of. Stuart Clark offers a refreshing summary of what we think we know now and the long history of our learning to parent day concepts. Some of the material in this book requires a bit more reading to wrap your mind around such concepts as parallel universes but for the most part, current (and past) theories are well explained for even the casual reader without a foundation in physics and cosmology.A sprinkle of humor here and there adds to the enjoyment as you journey through a fascinating history of early far thinking people that, based on then-available knowledge and observations, came up with reasonably sound ideas of our physical universe. Modern science continues to mold our knowledge as more discoveries are made and more mysteries (e.g., dark matter and dark matter) portend further excitement ahead. Provides the opportunity for students to choose a president to learn a little more about (they are more interesting once kids know they had pets) and write a poem about their own pets or the pet they would want to live with them in the White House when they become president. Great tool.
This is a fun book, with not only information about the animals at the White House, but a few interesting facts thrown in as well. My son and I are studying the presidents this summer. To make the study fun, we are learning about the president's pets, their children and what they liked to eat. Learning about a president's accomplishments is wonderful, but books like this help to make the presidents more "human" and more memorable. I recommend this book.
Another book that is great for short car rides! I keep a box of books in the car and my granddaughter loves this book, not only for its random and interesting info, but because she can get "complete" info in a short ride. History with a twist. Fun book.
My son and I love this book! I purchased it for our homeschool studies in the coming fall but we had to read through it today. Drawings are vibrant and fun, and the poem and information is engaging and delightful.
So...disclaimer, I wanted to KEEP this book for myself! I was expecting to only learn about the presidential pets, but to my surprise it gave a lot more info about them. The book included a short story and many facts about the presidency along with a caricature. My niece, no I didn't keep the book, loved the book and wanted me to read about the different presidents according to their interesting pets.
My daughter took this book out from her school library. We loved it so much that we bought a copy! This is one of those books that you could read over and over. There is a page for each president that features a funny poem, interesting facts, and great pictures.
Alot of interesting little facts. Enjoyed the book. Plan to pass it on the the younger ones in the family. Great kids book. B
