I really liked this book because not only did it give a short history lesson behind traditional wedding etiquette, it also showed us some very different and unusual styles of cakes. I liked the quilt-design cake but others I showed it to thought it was tacky. Needless to say it's an interesting design. This little pocket book will come in handy, I'm sure, when it is my turn to take my final stroll as a single woman. But who knows when that will be. . .I'm still 20!

The author is obviously a subject matter expert in conducting Phase I ESA investigations. However, this book is written in such a simplistic manner that I probably could have found everything needed to conduct my own Phase I ESA by googling it or looking it up on Wikipedia. Another example of the simplicity of this book is all illustrations in the book are hand-drawn by a novice. She didn't even hire a graphics illustrator to make a few simple but professional illustrations. In addition, the book is waaaaay overpriced. A comparable book at a bookstore should be around $30 max. Bottom line, this book doesn't provide any information that cannot be found with a simple search on the internet. Unless your college professor requires you to purchase this book, save your money and google the info.
A decent primer for those new to Phase Is. I would recommend if you are new to the field and want a jump start towards becoming knowledgeable on environmental due diligence. There's no substitute for experience, but you can at least consult this reference before you go to your boss with stupid questions.
This book was very helpful in introducing the topic of Environmental Site Assessments to someone with no background in the field. Recommend for anyone with interest or requirement in this area.

Book was in super good (new) condition. The only problem is that this is second addition and my class is using the third addition. But most of the information is the same so I'm ok.

The stories, although sad at times are also strangely uplifting, making you see the true beauty of life and the human spirit. A life changing read.
I recommend this book for anyone involved with hospice care... from patients and caregivers to hospice staff members and volunteers. The book is easy to read and is loaded with good, practical information. I enjoyed the stories that addressed the issues faced by hospice patients and their family members. Every aspect of hospice care is covered... from symptom management and medication use to the emotional challenges faced by patients and their caregivers. I wish that I had this book available to me when I started working as a hospice nurse. I checked out the book from my local library and now recommending that my hospice purchase several copies for staff use and to loan out or give to our patients. I can't think of one thing that the book didn't cover. For hospices, this book should be required reading for all new staff. For those considering hospice for themselves or a loved one... this is the only book that you need to buy.
Everything I want and need to know! Simply written and a resource book that will always be on my shelf and on the tip of my tongue when I find others in need of such support. Thank you Karen Whitley for having the foresight to write such a wonderful and engaging piece of work. As a Hospice volunteer and a friend who is losing a dear friend this book has clarified so many things that if I had not read it I would have done wrong. When I say wrong I simply mean I would not have been wise enough to steer her along all the precious end-of-life moments that she deserves. I visit her often and because of Karen Whitley's writings each visit is richer than the previous one. I learned to listen, laugh, cry and touch...............
Dying or being with someone who is dying is not something people like to discuss. When my beloved grandfather was suffering, I got my hands on "Living at the End of Life" for the others around him that were suffering . I was curious about the questions it addressed, found it was a quick read, so I cruised through it before passing it on. To be honest I cannot remember a lot of what was in the book, but I clearly remember it made me feel like I could handle this situation, that I could be helpful, and do it with grace. When things came up I wasn't expecting, like needing to wash him, I was ready. I had the courage to do what he needed me to do, because I had knowledge. The book gave me a better perspective on what things were like from his perspective, from my grandma's perspective, and the others involved. I found it so comforting, I gave a copy to a dear friend that was with her 100 year-old-grandmother in her last days and to my mother-in-law when trying to understand why her mother no longer wanted to eat. Both found it very comforting and informative. It is a book everyone should read, but it is especially for someone caring for a loved one during such a demanding time.
Shared this with several that were going through similar problems.
If you are experiencing or expect to experience the slow death of someone close to you this is a must have guide. It also is good for the stoic approach to one's own demise. It is the reality of coping with death in a how-to format.
Wish I had had this while we were going through the process with my mom. A lot of things were learned the hard way. All hospices should make this recommended reading for families. Every family should have a copy

OMG! Man, talk about biting off more than you can chew. A whirlwind of emotions and events that feed from the excitement and nerve racking tension that brings this bad boy roaring to life brilliantly. All the twists and turns, ups and downs, along with a few glitches and bumps here and there pull you deeper into this raging storyline and hard hitting plot. Throw in all the drama, intrigue, uncertainty, danger and suspense and you have one intense, page turning bombshell that grabs your attention and holds it from start to finish. The characters are complex and so believable it feels like you can just reach out and touch them. The scenes are so graphically detailed it really pulls this little jewel together beautifully. I really liked this fantastic book. It had a lot of twists and turns that will keep you on the edge of your seat wanting to know what will happen on each page that you turn. Pete and Jessie had a lot to overcome but their love did grow to make the right decisions at the end. You did a wonderful job with this amazing book. Thanks Aurora and keep up the good work for I will be waiting for the next one.
A great western novel. A very unusual story, we’ll done and exciting. The characters were believable and the story also. The female protagonist was quite the pistol and probably should have listened to her mother. Everything will come out perfectly in the end.
Slightly different , wasn’t sure if I was going to like the story...turned out that it was much better than I expected. Getting to know Pete and Jessie made this a wonderful read. Characters and their flaws were so believable. Aurora Hanson is a wonderful author, really like her writing style!!
I loved the main characters! For me they had such rich and strong characters that made the entire story all the more interesting. The choices they made, the actions they took, it was such an amazing adventure to read.
This Historical Western Romance Book was a real page turner with the great character and storyline development which kept me totally captivated as I turned each and every page!
Young girl joins a gang to to avenge her father's death. Gang leader seems half crazy with killing lust. Not my cup of tea but I am sure you will probably enjoy it.

The following notes may contain spoilers.)Plot and Setting: 5 -- Plot has many unique elements, no major holes, and a sense of focus. This is a beautiful, believable retelling of the 'Beauty and the Beast' story, with the added wonder of someone who seeks God experiencing the joy of reading the Bible for the first time. Suspenseful, romantic, and thoroughly enjoyable. Setting is clear, believable, and consistent. The timeline is easy to follow, and I enjoyed the interesting details about what life and law and justice were like in 1300's England.Characters: 4.5 -- Relatable, realistic, interesting, dynamic characters. A lot of wonderful depth and realism to both Ranulf and Annabel, in their pain and joy and confusion. Some minor characters have depth, while others may be slightly stereotyped or simplified. Villainous characters (Tom, Maud, Annabel's family) are fairly one-note, while we get more complex and interesting looks at others, like the coroner. Definite strong points in the relationships between characters. I especially enjoyed how the coroner slyly collected clues about the relationship between Annabel and Ranulf, and Stephen.Mechanics and Writing: 5 -- Few, if any, typos or word errors. One typo (in the very first line!), and 3 spots where paragraph breaks aren't quite right. That's all! Intelligent use of POV (Annabel and Ranulf). Skillful writing that adds to the story. Not to mention obviously well-researched.Redeeming Value: 5 -- Well-developed, central, uplifting themes. Annabel learns that the local priest doesn't even own a Bible, but her deep desire to read God's word is met through Ranulf--and she takes joy in learning a true picture of God through the Word. She also overcomes her fear, through faith and love. Ranulf and the coroner learn that mercy and love can sometimes supercede justice, and Ranulf releases some long-held bitterness and lets himself feel loved by God and Annabel. Sex, alcohol, violence, etc, are not glorified at all, though present: both Annabel and Ranulf are faced with violent attacks and unwanted sexual advances and/or accusations of sexual impropriety, though it avoids becoming graphic or crude.Personal Enjoyment: 5 -- I loved it. It made me feel in all the best ways, and leaves me content and satisfied. One I'll definitely read again.

Having a beastly human can be challenging and I was pleasantly surprised by how well Melanie set Lord Ranulf up to be both beastly and kind just like the beast.Dialogue: 1/1The dialogue was fitting to the story and the location it was set in. I enjoyed the miscommunications and misunderstandings.Plot/Storyline: .75/1This almost had a full star, but then I realized there was a plot hole at the end. So it got degraded slightly. Overall, however, Melanie did a great job creating a solid plot with many twists and turns. I enjoyed it.Overall Writing Quality: .75/1I am a bit more picky when it comes to traditionally published books, and this one, unfortunately didn't live up to my standards. The formatting of the Kindle version was a little off here and there and I feel like it could have gone through another edit or two before publication.Un-Put-Down-Ability: 1/1Despite those minor details above, this book was almost impossible to put down. I kept wanting to know what would happen next. And am glad I had a day of down time in which to read the whole thing in one day.Conclusion: 4.75/5If you like fresh looks at tales as old as time (come on, I had to do it once), you'll like this one. There is some violence that could be a bit much for some people, but for the most part this book is very clean both in the romance and violence.
The Merchant's Daughter by Melanie Dickerson is a compelling retelling of the beloved Beauty and the Beast tale. I have read three of the author's books in just as many days, and I can't wait to read another! I didn't read them in order because I didn't realize they use the same characters throughout three of the stories. It didn't ruin anything for me since I accidentally read a couple of them in order. haha But The Merchant's Daughter is a stand alone novel and is a great one to check out first. :-)I was pleasantly surprised with how the story was written in a realistic way. The Beast is a lord of a manor and because of that he rules over the town. The Beauty is the daughter of a merchant who died three years ago leaving them destitute. Required to work at the lord's house, Annabel begins to like and respect the scarred, hurting man. Ranulf meanwhile wonders if Annabel's pretty face hides a deceitful side. He soon finds out how different she really is from his deceased wife.One of the best parts of the story was how excited Annabel was about holding and reading a Bible. Her joy and amazement was convicting and uplifting. For some reason it seems easy to lose the wonder of the Word, but we should still react like Annabel did in the story. Plus, I loved how the truths from the Bible were woven throughout the story in such a seamless way.This fairy tale was such a great mix of the traditional story and of the Disney cartoon, too. If you have always enjoyed fairy tales, you should definitely read this book and this series! You won't regret it. :-)
