Despite being routinely ridiculed in the three seasons of "An Idiot Abroad", Karl Pilkington is a fount of common sense and wisdom at the most unlikely points in his travels; he's also a very, very funny writer and I couldn't recommend "The Further Adventures of an Idiot Abroad" more highly, especially to people who, like Karl, have traveled to distant places and have been way outside their comfort zones. This book is essentially a recounting of the second season's travels for "An Idiot Abroad", and includes classic recollections of the best moments from the series and much more. If possible, I recommend watching the show before reading the book, but it's not essential.There are so many great discussions in this book, but some of my favorites follow. In the "Desert Island" episode Karl gets taken to dinner and subsequently sleeps in a treehouse. But it's frequently about the food with Karl (and this is also one of my frequent impediments when traveling to obscure places): "I didn't bother waiting for tea after they showed me what they'd be serving up. It was fruit bat. It's a bat, and adding the word 'fruit' to it doesn't make it any more appetizing." This would be a recurring theme: his recollection of eating sea slug for breakfast in Japan really struck home with me as I spent last August in Japan, and while not being as fish-averse as Karl, I have to say that the seafood in Japan is on a whole different level: I was impressed with Karl's ingenious decision to tactically eat cough drops to mask the taste of the food. I love Japan, but will remember the cough drops next time I visit. Thanks for the tip Karl!Karl also brings out the best of people wherever he goes. On his trip to Moscow, he encountered a taxi driver who perfectly summed up the Russia travel experience:Pascha: Red Square is a place of execution. The ground is saturated with blood. We would be walking waist deep in blood.Karl: Do you do this as a living, this tour guide thing?Pascha: Occasionally. It's not really my main service product, but, yes, I do these things. The more I do it, the less I like it.These interactions and many more await readers in this book. Karl is opinionated and set in his ways, but he's always a very good sport, and I guarantee he does things Ricky and Steve would never in a million years do despite their taunts. I highly recommend the television show (available on DVD) and Karl's books, particularly "The Further Adventures of an Idiot Abroad"!
This book goes along with the show, "An Idiot Abroad". The concept is that Ricky Gervais and a friend send Karl Pilkington across the world. They send him specifically to terrible hotels and make him have a terrible time for their own entertainment.The books are Karl's published journals of his trips around the world.I personally would recommend reading the book first, as the show conveys the realistic aspect of it and Karl's hilarious UK sense of humor.Overall, great book.
After reading An Idiot Abroad I though I'd take a chance and read the follow up book even though I didn't see the TV show. I'm not sure if it was ever shown in the US as An Idiot Abroad was but after reading the first book I ordered this. Its very funny and stands alone even without seeing the show. Pilkington is hysterical and is probably the funniest Brit right now. If you want to laugh and enjoy reading about someone else travels this is the book for you...

If you have watched the Idiot Abroad series then you will probably have an affection for Karl - his writings (which are really his diaries whilst on his travels) will make you laugh out loud oftentimes and make you wonder about things from a decidedly different perspective. The words seem to fly off the page to the point that when you've reached the end it's a bit of a disappointment to be done with the book. If you want some light reading then do purchase this book - you'll almost hear Karl speaking the words.
I appreciate his outlook on life, he makes really awesome points, that end up being hilarious, but so true. Then I watched the actual series on YouTube & Netflix. Idiot abroad...a must see! His unintentional moaning can show him as a Debbie Downer. However, in the style he does it? Karl will be Karl & you can't fault him for it. Bc he's upfront about who he is from the get go. And he should be so lucky to have Suzanne by his side!
This is a great book… the formatting and set up of the book is second to none… what a great concept and really good execution. This book is funny, interesting and inspirational for all wannabe travelers out there. I have all other Karl books, and they're all one better than the other.This is a must read!
This book is so funny because Carl Pilkington just puts it out there as he sees it and I like the way he sees it. He must also be a real pain to live with. Poor Suzanne! I have Idiot Abroad and unless this one disappoints (and it hasn't so far) then I will be getting the others he's written. It's been a great read considering the depressing things going on in this country.

As a Data Analyst, I use excel at least 8 hours a day. I have several years of experience using what Bill Jelen calls the 'features only 5% of Excel users know about'. So when I bought this book, I thought it would be a simple desk reference that I would rarely use, but I still wanted to have in my library.I was wrong. I ended up reading, so far, more than 1/2 of the book. I have my bookmark in there and I'm going to finish it. Almost cover-to-cover excluding a few chapters on functions I will not use in my job.If you want to use this book as a reference, it is nearly exhaustive and very easy to find what you want. But if you read through it, you WILL learn many things, even if you are already an advanced user.Another thing I would like to say is that way the book is bound & covered is excellent. I also love the paper and printing. This may seem like a small thing to some, but for me it makes a big difference. I like the smooth, thick, bleached-white paper Mr Excel uses in his books. Makes it a joy to read.The only con is it doesn't talk much about VBA. But that is really a huge book on its own.This is great book that I am enjoying very much! Thanks Mr. Excel!
You definitely need to be an advanced user to use this reference. It does go over the general points of use for Excel, but I often refer to it to see what the operation I want is called, and what the syntax of the formula is. I find it easier than the lookup on Excel. The operations are grouped by type, accounting, finance, mathematics, etc. It makes it easier when I know what I want, but not what it is called. It is pretty easy to navigate, and each function shows the syntax and several examples. You don't want to read this, but you do want to have it on your shelf as a reference for Excel features you rarely use.
It is a good reference book. The only thing that prevented me from giving it 5-stars was the small font of the book. I wear glasses but still had some difficulty reading the pages I referenced.
An excellent aid for grasping and working through the program to achieve the end document one can share and all are able to follow.
This is an awesome book for quick reference to all the different formulas that are in Excel. It doesn't really matter what version of Excel you have because you can always write the formula in the cell.

Wow - this is one in depth book on Excel. I have piddled around in Excel for years and now have to have some in depth knowledge and this book plunged me right in. The photo's and explanations are right on. I love the Que books.

If you want your child to read a lot then buy Warrior Cat books. Be warned though........the child will want more and more of these books. My son reads these books so quickly. They are AR books, so if your child does Accelerated Reading tests at school, the teacher will be amazed on how many books have been read. Buy the books. Library day is normally only once a week and these books are normally checked out already.
This series is wonderful. I read the original series by Erin Hunt in high school and got this set for nostalgia. Although I initially thought they might be kids books I was pleasantly surprised to find that they are engaging and fun.
All of these books have been wonderful. I buy them for my granddaughter and have to read them myself. If anyone has read the Dragonriders of Pern series, they will love these books.
My son is so in love with this series. We own all the sets except for the individual shoot off books and some of the comics. We will continue buying until he has read them all I am sure.I have recommended them to many of his friends and their parents as the story line and story telling is interesting for both the child and the parent and the situations are not too mature for the age of readers.
Just a wonderful series that keeps our daughter wanting to read more and more. Not for every 5th grader but for those who have good imagination and likes to read, the series will keep them wanting to read more. Plenty of new vocabulary to ebhance her English language command.
My daughter, who is 11, is absolutely in love with this series, and she’s not a big reader. When she starts these books, she’s completely immersed in them. I love seeing her excitement. Absolutely fantastic. Anything that inspires a child, who typically isn’t interested in reading, to read deserves a great review!
My son has been reading these books since he was a young teen and ge is 19 and still loves them. He wants all of the sets. When he was younger, it was difficult to get him to read but this series changed that.
My 13 year old daughter is addicted to this warrior series. Shes has the whole collection now and cherishes them. She can also use these on her reading test at school for a grade so that is a major plus.

A great book! We had a great time hiking from Lukla to the Everest Base Camp, without a guide, only by using this book. Very fine details and great timings!Disadvantages : The rates are a bit off dated (3 years past since the current edition), and there are a lot more places for accommodation at the moment.Five stars well deserved! *****
I am very satisfiet with the guide. It got everything I expected. Detaled routing, where to sleep, ihow to travel.....lots of good stuff in a poket size book.
Decent info on trekking the Everest region. I gave it a 3 star rating however because after spending time there I really think you can get by without it if you can't afford it. If you are worried about what route you want to plan etc, then it is good to buy this. If you are not, then you can get by without.
This is an outstanding book with excellent content, tips and pictures. The 11 of us on the trek kept passing it around for helpful information.
I have a number of books on the Everest Region including Lonely Planets Trekking the Nepal Himalaya, Trailblazers Trekking the Everest Region and Berezuchas Trekking in Nepal. For details relating to route descriptions, photos, and practical info for the specific region I find this guide the best. It is very well written from its descriptions of the various main and side treks to the feel within the teahouse lodges. I have not been there yet so I cant verify the accuracy but Im very impressed. I have been posting to Lonely Planets Thorn Tree asking about various alternative trekking routes and have had some posters who had already been there say they didnt even know those options existed. The book is also smaller than some guides and the paper quality seems superior to the others. Its great to see some beautiful color photos. This guide clinched my decision to trek in the Everest Area. Hope this Helps!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

About the Author
Laurie Olin is Principal of Olin Partnership and Practice Professor of Landscape Architecture and Regional Planning at the University of Pennsylvania. In addition to his extensive work on landscape projects, including Bryant Park in New York City and the Getty Center Gardens in Los Angeles, Olin has written frequently on the history and theory of landscape architecture for various professional journals, for which he won the Bradford Williams Medal in 1991. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and is an Honorary Member of the American Institute of Architects. He is a coauthor of La Foce: A Garden and Landscape in Tuscany and Vizcaya: An American Villa and Its Makers, also published by the University of Pennsylvania Press.

He reveals perceptions through drawings and writings, engaging the reader in historic as well as contemporary investigations. I particularly thought the pensive recanting of the English landscape experience important enough to require it as reading for my college design class who will travel to England next year.

Well researched. A panegyric to be sure but detractors will find Carroll is honest about her failures and offers strong arguments in defense of her controversial actions, especially regarding the Spanish Inquisition. This should be required reading for adolescent girls as Isabel is a compelling model of strong feminine leadership. Would give 5 stars but for a number of typos.
An absorbing book that chronicles the life of one of the most important and influential woman of the past 1,000 years. A fearless and emotionally strong young woman, who in an age where women were mere backdrops to powerful men, Isabel fought her way to unite the kingdoms of Castile and Aragon into the political and military powerhouse that became Spain in the late 1400's and early 1500's.While this book is an interesting read for historians and academics, it is an inspiring read for young women who desire and dream to make their mark in today's competitive world.
Every book that I have ever read written by Dr. Warren Carroll makes history come alive - much more exciting than any fiction. His books are well-researched using much primary source material of the times. His writing is lively and exciting - spellbinding at times. For a true portrait of Queen Isabel and her times, this is the finest choice.
I'm still not done with the book but I found out so much historical background with also very insightful personal data about this remarkable queen.
A very comprehensive and easy read about Spanish history. The author takes us briefly through the events that lead to Queen Isabel's coronation followed by her amazing feats whilst on the throne.
I enjoyed this book, but feel that I would like to read another by an author with a different viewpoint. Mr. Carroll comes across as rather besotted with Queen Isabella and I don't feel that I got a balanced view. It was very well researched, but the adoration was a bit off-putting.
Author is clearly pro-Isabel and glosses over some of her shortcomings, but it is well-researched and well-written.
American historian Warren Carroll (1932 - 2011), also known as skilled educator and founder of the Christendom College, had published a biography of Isabel of Castile (1451 - 1504). His book is a very good example of a beautiful narrative of historical prose that is written so vividly that after reading no one could claim anymore that history is boring. Worth mentioning is also that no interference between the strong devotion of the author to catholic faith and the objectiveness of his historical writings can be detected, a strong point rarely seen in work of others. Keeping a strict division between personal views and writings is something that is not achieved by too many columnist or historians. Mr. Carroll openly admires the main character of his monograph, but this does not keep him from criticizing some of her decisions (e. g. the expulsion of the Jewish people from Spain). But even-though his criticism is strongly based on the historical circumstances that accompanied the events presented in his book.Mr. Carroll provides a very comprehensive description of the longest recorded conflict in human history, the reconquest of Spain, so-called ''reconquista'', from ca. 722 AD till 1492 AD, when the last Moors where expelled from the Iberian Peninsula by the forces led by Queen Isabel and her beloved husband Ferdinand. A concise presentation of these never ending conflicts between Muslin and Christian states of Iberian Peninsula thorough ages "in a nutshell" is an intellectual achievement. The end of the Emirate of Granada ruled by the Nasrid dynasty since ca. 1237 AD is a perfect example of showing the nasty features of human character that typically show in very difficult, to say critical moments. Despite being outnumbered by Christian foes, the Moors of Granada started fighting between themselves in the final years of their crumbling state instead of uniting against their common enemy attacking from North. Waging wars between each other, they provided a most desired gift to their mortal foes. At this point, one should recall a quotation from famous ''Germania'' by Tacitus (ca. 55 AD - 120 AD) - one of the greatest historian of Ancient Rome that is as follows: ''May the Gods continue and perpetuate amongst these nations, if not any love for us, yet by all means this their animosity and hate towards each other: since whilst the destiny of the Empire thus urges it, fortune cannot more signally befriend us, than in sowing strife amongst our foes.'' (translated by Thomas Gordon). Eventually, in January 1492 AD the Moors lost their beautiful kingdom to the Spanish conquerors. Immediately after acquisition of the last Moorish possessions on the Iberian Peninsula, the Spanish Kingdom started a magnificent conquests of new lands overseas to establish a great empire. Unfortunately, this empire was later literally ''eaten alive'' by an incredible corruption that weakened and eventually killed it like cancer. The case of the famous treasure ship Atocha that sunk close to the shores of South Florida in 1622 AD and later was found by Mel Fisher (1922 - 1998) clearly illustrates the scale of the corruption that was ''drinking the blood'' of the Spanish Empire. Not too long time later Spain lost its position as ''first among nations'' to the Kingdom of France.

The concept of this game gets top marks. You play the children of the gods of various world mythologies in the modern world, but unknowingly because the gods have been mingling among humans in secret these past centuries. So surprise! That deadbeat dad who left your mom? Turns out he was actually Thor. Or you always thought your mom left you in an orphanage because she was a drug addict? Well, no it turns out she was the Egyptian cat goddess Bastet. Family is complicated and you're a demigod.This gets more fun when you end up chased down and beaten up by biker gangs being manipulated by one of the kids of your Uncle Loki who thinks roughing you up will teach you a lesson, or the son of Susano-O decides to throw a skinned horse through the window of the restaurant you work at because of a perceived slight.Add to that that the whole reason you even know about your godly bloodline is because your folks all had to go to war against the titans again and have had to leave the world in the care of the next generation--you guys. And oh, by the way, horrible monsters called titanspawn are going to frequently tear free of that divine war and show up on earth to conduct acts of terror. And who gets to stop them when that happens? Well you and any demigods you know who don't hate your guts.So there's lots of drama in this setting, which is a hallmark of White Wolf/Obsidian Path products. Like a lot of their products, they also do enough research to really feel like they know what they're talking about (until you start doing your own research and figure out just how little they know what they're talking about). But the book is pretty and the concepts are engaging, and it's a fun game to play as long as you're okay heavily adding on to it and rewriting stuff to make it work.The downsides aren't many, but they're frustrating and really hurt the finished product. The powers you get for being a demigod are frankly pretty terrible. You can make your hand glow like a flashlight. You can cause small plants to grow. Even at the very top end, if you buy any of these powers all the way to the top, most of them are still pretty terrible. There's a few that are insanely broken compared to the rest (though frankly that puts them about where you'd want powers for your godling character to be) like the one where you make a holy symbol of truthfulness and the person you're talking to just believes your story about whatever you're telling him unless people sit him down and line up the evidence. This is a pretty good one. Most of them just aren't. You end up feeling pretty weak--and it doesn't get any better. Apparently there's two other books in this series that give you better stuff. I haven't seen them, but you may want to check them out and see about yoinking the powers from one of those maybe.Another big problem is how the titanspawn are handled. I like the idea that maybe there's minotaurs in the cornfields on the outskirts of town, dragging off drunk cowboys from the local bar, knocking them unconscious to wake up in an improvised corn maze to try and escape. That kind of monster of the week is fun. But Scion takes the approach that titanspawn are largely retreaded to look and act like modern tropes--so you get hideous things like centaurs with engine blocks growing out of their ribcage and exhaust pipes for wings--because people used to ride horses, but now they ride motorcycles...get it? You get fire giants in trenchcoats and dwarves in flannel shirts and mining hardhats. Some of it is pretty cringeworthy. Medusas that bite girls with their hair snakes and turn them into lethal barflies that get you out into an alley and turn you to stone...that's actually a little cool.So yeah, lots of concept and a solid game but lots of implimentation and mechanics you'd be better off coming up with by yourself. Take it for what it's worth--you can have a lot of fun with it. A lot of the thinking behind it is kind of cheesy and the decisions the mechanics are pretty underwhelming, but if none of that ends up bothering you, you can end up with a really fun game.
This book is great.Introduces a new branch in RPG's playing as the son (or daughter) of an ancient good and developing his/her legend.Receive power and mystical gifts such as enchanted swords or powerful cellphones or cars (you can).The game system is easy to use and the preset adventure (characters for beginning players included) is great. The Fatebinding mechanic is nice and represents an endless canvas of possibilities for story-telling and of course, fun.The combat system is the flaw. It is boring, not dynamic and slow. All your adventure can be fast and exiting, but when you get into fights the game turns into a nightmare. For GM and players.Some things are not explained or included in the book such as the jaguar warriors the game mentions you can have as followers but when you look for them in the book, surprise!, There are none. So you have to talk to your GM to make adjustments and balance things and improvise (which in my opinion is good most of the time for storytelling, but not for mechanics and not for a core book).I recommend this book if you can take the time improve (or create a new one) the combat system (based on other games from White-Wolf) it will give you hours of fun and legend.And skip the centaurs presented in this book, that was not a good idea at all. Keep the original concept and things will be better.
I like the game so making sure I have the core rule books is kinda important right? Yes it is! Well anyway, the premise of the game is that you're child of one of the gods from an ancient pantheon. It's a blast and you should try it.

If you enjoy the WOD series this is a great addition especially if you like any history mythos. Easy to start and you dont have to be familiar with WOD to play as the book describes in detail how everything works from combat to getting around.
Scion hero is a great rpg, you can play it in almost any period of time with great possibilities of epic encounters and events that could change the fate of the whole world. The rules are simple and straitgh foward, even tough a very few of them lack some more deep explanation, like the necessity of touch in the Heal power. Even tough those minor details don't hurt the game. Another master piece from White-Wolf
It's a wonderful game and it's so hard to find that being able to order it online was a real treat. This is the first book of three corebooks (and a few companion books), so it's got all you need in order to be able to run an adventure. That includes character creation for your players and a pre-built adventure and characters for the GM if you're just starting out and don't want to make your own. It uses the same tick system that other White Wolf games use and generally I found it to be a well balanced game. Plus, who doesn't love a bit of mythology?On a note for the seller, it came in a timely manner and as described.
Being I love mythology this game is the best. This history and all the detail put in to the game makes you feel as if you are playing in a tv show. You can get alot out of this game when you know some mythology and studying it because when you bring it to the game you can feel the history of your god/parent.
