Not a bad book at all. It's written in a simple manner and explains a lot of the processes in fairly clear detail. It would be nice to have some more pictures and better drawings, but does the job well.
The author left out some important details that would have made the build a lot easier. He covers himself by saying it's not a how-to instruction, but why else would anyone want it? Basic design is good. I disagree on material choice- if you're going to put that much work into it, why not spend a few dollars on 4140 steel and know that you have a good finished project. McMaster-Carr is one reasonable source.

I have been to EMILY in Brooklyn so I knew what I was in for. We make pizza weekly and I've been testing some of these recipes. The ones I have made have sticking power into our repertoire because they are simply wonderful. I have to admit up front that I have not tried the dough listed in the book. I know, how can I deviate? Well, Andris Lagsdin of Baking Steel has my heart with his 72 hour pizza dough. I'm sure I will eventually try the dough recipe in the book, but that's my current standby that consistently works.The recipes I have made from the book include the green tomatillo sauce, the Emily, and the Emzies. I'm quite certain I will just keep making these again and again, because my Brooklyn loving heart just can't find pizza like that in California. We've had these weekly for over a month and I'm not even close of tiring of them.
Okay, this is my first review and likely my last. The NYtimes was right, this cookbook is one of the best of the fall. But that doesn't do this book justice. I have maybe 800 cookbooks and I would rate this near the top of my collection. I came out of the closet since there were only 4 reviews and I was flabbergasted. Now there's 5. It's the real deal. Enough said.
Love this cookbook!! The wings are amazing and especially the emmy burger it was worth the time to make, and I have yet to try her pizzas but they look delicious!!

Wish there were more photos of the recipes but still OUTSTANDING! If you want to learn inside recipes for artisan pizza and burgers, then you need this.
So, typically I don't write many reviews but I just had to write about this. I've been making pizzas for a few years and when I got this book I thought "Damn, that pizza looks good". I decided I'll try the dough and it called for 4 cups of bread flour and a total of 1 1/2 cups of water, so I was like whatever and added everything and I kinda saw this coming but after about 8 minutes of mixing the "dough" wasn't even coming together it was crumbly like a pie dough. I followed the exact recipe and made sure I didn't screw up on anything just in case but no I did everything the book told me and it came out like crumbly flour, basically i spent another hour adding water and adding flour and kneading and letting it rest and over and over until I finally came out with the dough I was supposed to have, a nice elastic, soft, smooth dough. I have yet to try the dough because I'm letting it ferment for 2 days but if all goes well, it will be a thin crust pizza according to the book. Once I've tried it I'll leave an update. I'm not saying don't buy the book, I'm saying if you plan on using the pizza dough recipe from this then be prepared to add more water

I was very hesitant to buy this book. Since January I have purchased all the AIP cookbooks that I could find. I wasn't really pleased with those so I was concerned this would be another one where I use only a few recipes from the entire book. I am so glad I got this one. It has recipes with ingredients that I normally have on hand. I can tell I will be making the majority of the recipes in this book. I've already made 6 this weekend.
I really, REALLY want to be able to give this cookbook 5 stars because I (and my family) have enjoyed so many of the recipes, but the editing of this book was so poorly executed that I just can't. There were many recipes that made no sense as written and I quickly found that I have to carefully read the whole recipe before attempting to make it. I am an experienced cook, so I've had no problem using this as a guideline and improvising where needed, but for the average person following along, you would most likely end up in tears. Something that happens all to frequently as it is for those of us following the Autoimmune Protocol. For this reason, the price of the book is too high. This should have been offered as a much cheaper e-book as currently written. However, if this cookbook was properly edited and re-released, I wouldn't mind paying for it and would definitely recommend it to others.Edit: After making the strawberry cake recipe I had to come back and add a star. The batter was tricky to work with, but with some patience, it turned out amazing. I served it to several other non-aip followers and everyone was a fan! I can't wait to make it again!
** Updating my review **I decided to hold on to this book and not return it, and I am glad because so far I have made several of the recipes to try out and I knew I had to come back here and admit I was wrong. The "ketchup" recipe alone is enough to keep the book - I couldn't believe a recipe so basic would produce something that actually TASTES like ketchup. I am still not thrilled about the binding/print because I don't see it holding up well, and think the price should reflect that, but the recipes are definitely making up for it.*********************I don't know. I WANT to love this book. I do love the gal who put it together, and usually enjoy the recipes she blogs. I am a long-time AIP follower, I know my way around the kitchen at this point. I don't know what it is that is putting me off - the cheap, flimsy binding job, the amateur printing/hard-to-read fonts/food presentations, the errors in the recipes, the fact that I ordered it at the same time as the "Nourish" cookbook which is everything a cookbook ought to be (and cost LESS than this one), the ultra basic recipes (which I am sure taste delicious, but they are ones I would have figured out on my own and didn't need to pay nearly $30 for. Whatever "it" is, it has left me wondering if I should return this book and get my money back, or put it on the shelf and see how it goes. $30 is a lot of money, and I did expect more than what I found crammed into my mailbox. Not trying to be harsh, just honest. I could have saved my money and continued to follow the HWKIP blog and done just fine... even found that some of these recipes I already have pinned on Pinterest and did not need to pay $$ for.... BUT although the recipes are pretty basic, they are practical and fast, and that is a good thing.
I discovered Bre'anna's blog through a friend's pins...and I am so very thankful that I did. I, too, have been diagnosed with Hashimoto's and have been gluten free for three years, and have done strict paleo off and on, but have not seen the relief that I was hoping for. I am thrilled to have this beautiful, well-written + creative cookbook to help me in my AIP journey. She has created recipes for all our favorite "go-to's." I have gotten rave reveiews from my Husband and picky-eating-elementary boys for the recipes that I have tried via her website. Thank you, Bre'anna for your work!
Favorite recipe is the lasagne! I don't like "real" lasagne, but Breanna's version is amazing. I honestly ate it a week straight since I've so missed having genuinely tasty recipes in my life since going mostly AIP. Her enchilada recipe is also quite tasty and worth making again and again. Haven't tried everything yet, but she has a refreshing amount of new recipes for those trying to go Paleo or AIP and haven't come across many great recipes yet.
I do NOT want to eat AIP Paleo and have resisted it for a long time but my autoimmune condition demands that I give it a try. I have read blog posts and other resouces for AIP recipe ideas but was less than enthusiastic. One read through this book and I am excited to begin. Simple recipes, simple ingredients ( some Amazon shopping required) For the first time I know I can do this. Thanks Bre'anna.
Good ideas, but the execution leaves something to be desired. AIP changed my life and am always looking for new and interesting recipes to broaden my horizons. I was excited that the descriptions of the recipes said how tasty the dish was. I have made a number of these dishes now, and have not been impressed. There hasn't been a tasty dish in the bunch. Some have gone in the trash after the first bite. I will say they look nice. I purchased the Kindle version. There are typos that were not caught that drive me a bit batty. There is no index so one has to go through the entire book to locate a recipe- for example instead of looking for salmon in the index, you find salmon in several places in the book. In her instructions she may say, cook something in water, but no water was listed, or arrange the meatballs on the baking sheet, however, no instructions are given for these. There is a lot of back and forth as well. I do realize we all have different tastes, so this may be appropriate for some.

Big Nate...one of the best comics ever known (you might not agree with me. But that's ok, right?). I have read lots of Big Nate and the end result is always good. There are also lots of biggies in this book...you wish to know? Alright, I shall. Get ready to know the things. 1, Nate gets in detention by Artur (Nate helps Artur with painting something. Doesn't end all that well.). 2 Nate's skateboard gets drowned in the river (Nate's skateboarding and he gets caught by a lady walking her dog. I mean, what's up with THAT?). 3, Nate then finds out Arthur's in the scout troop that Nate, Francis, Teddy, and others are in. Now before I start going chit-chat, Arturs Nate's archenamy (however you spell it.). So Nate basically hates (or dislikes, however you put it.) Arthur. So then he heads home and Francis comes with him (Artur was offering rides home, but Francis said no thanks.). Then Nate finds out they are doing a fundraiser with warm fuzzies (no idea what they are. Who cares anyway.). 4, Nate wants to know the prizes, but Francis has a guitar lesson. So then he has to go. But he says they are on the back of the buchore (whatever.). So then there is third. It is a robot that plays songs. Nah. Second. A telescope. No thanks. But then the GRAND prize. A make-your-own skateboard. Then Nate gets fired up. He wants to win that skateboard. So then he says he'll convince people to buy them. I could go on and on, but I don't want to spoil EVERYTHING. I hope you enjoyed this review about this Big Nate book. I hope you have a good time reading this book. As a general rule, I pooh-pooh "graphic" novels. To me, that's a euphemism for comics (Archie, anyone?) and really, all kids should be reading LITERATURE!!! Enter in one of my twin boys. He's a "reluctant reader" who took to Nate. He begged me to read Nate. Months of procrastination later, I picked on up and was surprised to find that I thought the books were honestly funny and, so long as the parent discusses with the child the meaning of sarcasm, irony and sardonic wit (and how that's all great in a book but NOT GOOD in real life) then the books are not only harmless, but a solidly constructive step towards reading "real" books. I know, readers of my review will be appalled at my literary snobbery. What can I say. I am a wanna-be erudite.So, for "reluctant" readers, especially boys, this would be a relatively benign choice (v. Wimpy Kid which I don't like as much). For any other child, this is a reasonable addition as a funny alternative to literature. These would be good on a family vacation when everyone relaxes with a book in the afternoon. I would say target age is from 7-10ish. My boys are 8 and 10 and loved them.
Grandson who is 9 loves these books. Move over iPad! He can’t put them down!
Our seven year old is obsessed with this series. He spends his allowance money on them. He received four more for Christmas, and is receiving a reading award in his class next week. He will ask to go to bed 30 minutes early just so he can read. Needless to say, we are extremely pleased.

My 9 year old LOVES the Big Nate books & now collects them! I'm excited that he comes home from school and wants to read instead of play video games & will continue to order these books for him! They even have these in the school library as approved reading material for his age & grade, so I I know they're GOOD books!
This book series is awesome! My 10 yr old son loves them. The story is entertaining and he loves the comics in the book! I will be buying more of this series. Great read for young readers!
I... loved... this... book... SO MUCH!!!!! I discovered Big Nate 2 or 3 years ago,while I was sleeping at my cousins' house. My cousin and I were reading and I was bored of my book. So my cousins lent me the first book in the Big Nate series. I loved it but after a while, I totally forgot about it. Now, in 2013, I rediscovered the series!PS. If “rediscovered" isn't a word, I'll make it one!PSS. I finished this book in less than 2 days! 2 DAYS!!!!!
