Although I usually have no trouble falling asleep at night, lately I've found myself staying awake later -- sometimes anxious about all of the things I have to do the next day, and sometimes just with too many thoughts occupying my head. I like using this journal to learn more about myself and what my thoughts actually mean. I've found that some of my most cyclical and reoccurring thoughts are outlining fears I've been too hesitant to confront, and this journal is helping me to recalibrate them into more helpful thoughts.
This was purchased for my 11 year old son that has insomnia. There are some pages that are probalby a litte too deep for him, but he has used it already and he likes it. It is not really a journal to figure out why you can't sleep, it is more like thought provoking activities to do when you can not sleep. At least this helps keep him in bed instead of wandering around the house all night.
Despite waiting a ridiculous amount of time for delivery, it is so worth it. I am do happy with the book. Very neat and you can tell the author took his time, the questiond are so creative. There's lots of writing and drawing and a little colouring. I wish the book was spiral bound for easy writing and also wish the pages were thicker because the pages blot a little. (I used gel pen)

I wish there were a way to return this book. It does not have page numbers that are accurate/coordinate to the page numbers in the paperback copy, so I cannot reference quotes with page numbers, meaning I cannot use the book with APA citations.

Shaping School Culture, at 287 pages, excluding references, and index, is an academic tome on school culture—though the authors define culture through others (on page 8); the authors do not exactly define it within their scope of reference to begin at their on starting line, but without a foundational consensus definition, continue on from there. That is not to say that it is detrimental. Culture may be one of those intangibles that are unable to be tangible.“Parents, teachers, principals, and students have always sensed something special, yet undefined about their schools—something very powerful yet difficult to describe or put your finger on†(p 8). That is an extremely apt quote for the majority of the book. It tries to lay out a paradigm for changing the school culture into something more positive, productive, and prosperous. And, it may very well be a quagmire at times, quicksand in others, yet freedom for most of the book.The authors admit that the book grew out of their previous book for principals. But that does not mean that anyone else will not benefit from the book. While principals may indeed be the only ones that can truly move the school culture where they want it to go, teachers and other employees have every bit of stakeholder ownership in the school they work for.The authors offer a clear simple thesis: shaping school culture is in everyone’s best interests. They reveal their theme through stories of business, management, and education. They insist that every school can become a great one, as long as everyone involved is in it together and that no one is the salmon swimming upstream.The writers sharpen their focus through stories of well-known companies, IBM, Starbucks, Costco, and extremely well-regarded schools. This may be a double-edged sword to many: is this book a dog wagging its tail or the tail wagging the dog? Do they use well-known prosperous companies as the examples, or the exceptions? Is this book in search of a thesis or a thesis ins search of a book? The authors did a remarkable job of placing their theme within the confines of well-establish entities that have successful cultures and try to show how a weaker school can improve their school culture, grow, become prosperous, attain the culture that the school officials desire. It is definitely not an easy task, but a definitely achievable goal.The authors provide a great amount of research to back up their propositions, almost too much. I have read many books on the importance of nurturing culture in schools, but this book is very different from others. The author uses stories to show how artifacts, routines, symbols, history, tales, rituals, ceremonies, and traditions can shape the culture of an organization. The book is divided into two sections: The Elements of Culture and The Symbolic Role of School Leaders. I found the second section to be of much greater use and more interesting to read. In this section, the author provides specific actions that can be taken to promote a positive culture, whereas the first section is much more philosophical. If you are looking to completely overhaul the culture in your school, or if you are just looking for small ways to promote a more positive atmosphere, this book can be a helpful, thought-provoking resource.

About the Author
Emma Farrarons, a French illustrator and graphic designer, is the author of the Mindfulness Coloring series. Born on the island of Cebu in the Philippines, Emma grew up in Paris. She was trained in illustration at the Edinburgh College of Art and l’École nationale supérieure des Arts Décoratifs. Having completed a textile and printmaking course at Capellagården school in Sweden, she has developed a particular love for pattern and fabric print and is inspired by French, Scandinavian, and Japanese design. She illustrates and designs books, posters, and stationery. When she is not drawing and designing, Emma enjoys cooking, sewing, travel, and practicing mindfulness. She lives in London with her Danish husband.

I expected to receive a full size coloring book. I was shocked when it came. It's a little bigger than the average paper back book. It's hard to color because the pictures are so small. Don't get this one. All of the other similar coloring books are full size.
I like the patterns, the size... But the binding is so tight and the image goes all the way to the edge on all sides of the page, including into the binding. Frustrating for someone who finds pleasure in completion.
This is my first adult colouring book, my husband thinks I am mad, but I am enjoying colouring and find it very relaxing, takes me back to my school years when we used to colour the brown paper that covered our school text and writing books. I am using a set of Caran D'ache pencils that I bought about 35 years ago, the colours are still vibrant and the pictures look great. My only criticism is that the binding is so tight it is difficult to get the book to lie flat so it is difficult to colour the very center of the page.
I was at first disappointed with the small size but quickly grew to like if for easily taking with me. The designs are beautiful but I am not a fan of double-sided pages. I also don't care for how you lose part of the design in the binding. I'm using Staedtler Triplus Color markers and have not had any issues with bleeding through the page. Each page is heavy weight so that helps. Overall, I like the book...just hate the design loss in the binding.
I love this book it's so pretty! it is smaller than I expected but I actually like it better this way. if ur worried about not being able to lie the book flat or get to the entire picture to color it, u just have to crack the spine & it should b fine
This is a tiny paperback book with a tight binding that will not lay flat while you're using it. So basically you have to hold it open while you're coloring. This is not practical. The designs are nice, but they go all the way to the middle of the tightly bound book, so you can't actually get the crayons in there to color the whole design. You are selling coloring as a mindful practice for neurotic people. This only makes me more neurotic. Defective design.
In an ever-exploding amalgam of coloring books proclaiming to do anything from entertain your kids to save your sanity, this one is really a great idea not just because of its beautiful coloring pages but because of the smaller format. Perfect for tucking into any place from your own purse to a diaper bag, kid's backpack, back pocket in your car or even the tiny pockets in airplanes, it gives you or your loved one the chance to color in peace even when space is at a premium and a traditional, full-size coloring book would be difficult to use. It also really "wows" with the diversity of images -ranging from things like random patterns to quirky pears, cute animals etc.The only reason I deducted one star, to be honest, is because I wish that images which are not just patterns were resized to fit onto a single page - albeit then smaller - because it's a little disappointing that, for example, a super cute whimsical sleeping fox or kitty is basically cut in half so that you can't remove the image to reuse in another way if desired.Otherwise a great product!
Nice cute little book with great images. The images that previous buyers had provided helped me in making my own decision about this book. I wouldn't have been convinced if I never had a chance to see those images for myself so I am grateful to them. Though because the binding is so nice and tight that pressing down the book to keep the book flat in some way was a bit annoying. The lines do indeed go right into the binding too so trying to color along the inner pages is also a bit troublesome. Over all the images are nice and calming, the size of the book is nice to handle if you like miniature/compartmentalizing as much as I do, and the quality of the paper itself, I don't remember exactly but I know it will make you realize you are still handling a coloring book. It's nice because now grown-ups have something they can work with. For the longest time, I only thought children could color in books but now I know I was wrong. This is a great book if you have the time or want to just go back to your inner child a little.
This mindfulness coloring book is PERFECT. It has high quality paper, detailed yet very meditative images that repeat, and is the perfect size to stash it in your purse to use while waiting at a doctor's appointment, or any other time for on the go. The pages fold all the way back, and the colors "pop" on this high quality thick and extra white paper. You don't need a hard surface under it either since it is a pretty thick book. It is well worth the cost. I don't have anything negative to say about it. I struggle to meditate, but automatically get in "the zone" while using this book. HIGHLY RECOMMEND! I have used several different coloring books for adults, and this is by far the best.

If you haven't read any of Ariely's old books, this might bring new insight into the story of motivation, but if you have, it's all the old motivation experiments discussed in Predictably Irrational and The Upside of Irrationality stretched out into short chapters, with not much new stuff.
I've followed Ariely for the better part of a decade and found this book to be more of a "cliffnotes" of previous work rather than an original piece itself. I'm a pretty big fan-- he's one of two people I follow on facebook-- so it hurts to give this rating, but it's probably important to let others know. After buying his last book only to find I'd already read ~75% of the material already, it was upsetting to buy this book and find I'd already read each of these hundred pages somewhere in the previous 1200.This would make a great introduction, though.
Mix of older Author's books. I didn't find it that useful or interesting as the other books. I'm a little disappointed.
When I saw that Ariely had another book coming out on social media, I immediately bought it since I am a fan of his work. When I got it, and saw how small it was and that it was branded a TED book, I was a little worried. I feel that the TED talk infrastructure trades on the novelty effect – show something that makes someone say gee-whiz and ignore the complicated understratum that makes up the bulk of a subject. Which is something that happens a bit here, but a 100-page book is better for depth than an 18-minute speech but only just a bit. Overall this is a good introduction to behavioral economics without a lot of overlap with the author’s other works. The framing for looking at “Motivations†works to create a narrative in the book that helps show what we know about what makes people tick. But I would still point people to the author’s other works.

A book that truly touches your soul. I have respected and enjoyed Dan's work for years and did attribute some of his motivation to his accident. Only today, after reading Payoff, was I able to fully appreciate the magnitude of its influence on his life's work.Not only is the message strong, the presentation is absolutely compelling. I had come back home after getting a haircut and noticed a small package at the door which I opened to find a copy of Payoff. I stood in the driveway and started to read it. I could not put it down. As my legs began to get tired, I went to the backyard, sat on the deck and continued reading.A hour later, my wife noticed my car in the driveway and came looking for me and wondered what I was up to. Given that my life involved a painful accident followed by years of slow and frustrating recovery, this book spoke to me at a very different level. I finished it in one sitting. Thank you Dan for writing a 103 page book :-)My hope is that each of you will read this book and gain the insights without having to go through the painful experiences yourself. That has been my mission in life, but it doesn't seem to work very often. I pray that more people will learn from other people's experiences.Dan Ariely has done an amazing job with Payoff and I wish that many people will use it to achieve peace and joy in their lives.

In the beginning, he opens up to you, the reader, by writing about an extremely painful and personal experience he went through.One night, Dan Ariely received a call from a woman who he did not know. She was calling him from the hospital, asking him to come help her because two of her teenage children had been badly burned in a fire. When Dan was a teenager, he had also been in an accident in which nearly 70% of his body had been severely burned. He went to the hospital to help the woman's children for months, and that is where he made his first realizations about motivation: 1.
