Wendy Cohen is a registered nurse who happens to have IC, which gives her a special knowledge of this disease. She goes beyond the medical community into holistic care, offering the reader options not ordinarily offered.The writing is easy to understand with case studies to help the reader comprehend what Ms. Cohen is explaining. Subjects include diet, food, herbals, acupuncture, chronic pain and one's attitude toward health and staying healthy. This is a positive book with lots of hope, many suggestions and a comprehensive look into what causes interstitial cystitis and chronic pain. Well, let me start by saying that for years, I have had severe IC as well as Bladder Infections (both). These struck about every two months. Sometimes it was a full blown bacterial infection (I was tested), some were IC with the symptoms only. The pain has been severe at times. So, before I discovered this book, I spent HOURS searching and reading though sample eBooks about IC. They just not do it for me and then I discovered this book.Reasons that I am glad that I found this book:1 It is written by a woman who has had this condition and truly understands the pain and suffering of this condition.2 She is a nurse and has medical training.3 The author understands that there are certain trigger foods that aggravate this. I took notes and realized that when I ate these foods etc, that my symptoms grew much worse.4 There is so much information in this book, just like a road map to follow to become better and really manage flare-ups. This book has given me hope and it is helping my IC.5 Before I read thus FULL BOOK, I had the free sample, which I highlighted and read over and over. Yet I needed the full book so I gladly spent the 10 dollars....so worth it.6 The writing us conversational and easy to follow. In fact, it is so well researched and written, that it is now my textbook/goto book for IC treatments.Bottom line: If you have IC, I recommend this book to you. Personallhy, there is hope for me and with what I have learned while reading this book, I believe that I will have less and less IC flare-ups.

Those with a medical background will find that this book reads a little slow. I felt that way and I don't have any medical background aside from a few nursing classes. That said, it really breaks things down in layman's terms for those who want it that way. I do find the book pretty comprehensive and useful and would recommend it if you are looking for relief. I do believe there are certain triggers that cause my bladder pain and I ordered this book out of desperation.

I've learned a lot from this book - it's very thorough, and as someone who's suffered from bladder issues (neurogenic bladder) for a couple years now, it gave me a lot of new information that I've never heard or been able to get from any other doctor, nurse or urologist

This book was extremely helpful. Most doctors won't tell you that IC is likely autoimmune in nature and that you can begin healing with diet. This book explains why an optimized and personalized diet is necessary to heal. It will guide you on how to remove bladder irritants, allergens, and autoimmune inducing stuff like gluten and dairy. It also includes information about symptoms, conventional diagnosis and treatment options/medications, healing with natural supplements/herbs and lifestyle changes.

I'm a physical therapy working with pelvic pain patients and I highly recommend this book. The references in this book are very helpful for PT's and clients for questions and direction in systemic disorders associated with gut, bladder or pelvic floor issues. It is a holistic and objective based approach and should help PTs and clients ask appropriate questions with regards to care.

If you've been diagnosed with IC or Irritable Bladder Syndrome, you should check out this book. It's filled with many natural alternatives to treatment but also goes into the medical side of the condition too. I've learned a lot by reading it. This condition varies so much from woman to woman, you really need to learn as much about it as you can. Check it out and good luck.

If you have interstitial cystitis, YOU definitely should read this book. I passed mine a long to another lady I met online. This book opened my eyes to OBBI, and I am not finding so much relief. It gave me that push I needed to have the confidence to see the doctor about OBBI (bacteria in the bladder hiding behind biofilms), and I finally have found some answers. She even talks about the BROTH CULTURE, HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT!

This book was eye-opening. I am familiar with selling products and services, and assumed that selling a company was pretty much the same process. An important take-away was that you have to fight for value on the front end to get sellers to recognize your strategic value beyond a multiple of cash flow. That is just the beginning of the journey. The book details the importance of a properly worded letter of intent and how the transaction price and terms need to be defended through due diligence, the translation of the LOI into the purchase agreement and through to closing.When I sell, it will be my first sale. The book points out that my likely buyer would have already acquired possibly dozens of companies and will know all of the ways to tilt the transaction in their favor. I am glad I read this and feel so much better armed to fight the battle.

I am glad I read this book. I am always on guard with these types of "How To" books as a 200 page commercial to sign up for my course or buy my product or service. To that end, the author did not disappoint. In the process of pointing out all the complexities of the M&A process, the pit falls of the inexperienced seller, and why you need to hire a good M&A advisor, he clearly presents a wealth of information that will be useful to both buyers and sellers alike. The descriptions of deal elements, often citing actual deals are clearly presented and easy to follow.The author is a deal enthusiast and he takes the reader through the process of completing the transaction in the often contentious zero sum game of business sale transactions (every dollar the buyer saves is a dollar the seller does not receive). For every move the buyer makes to his or her advantage we get to see the work around, compromise, or counter move necessary to keep the deal on track and moving to closing while preserving the seller's transaction value. It does not read like a mystery thriller, but the many twists and turns of the business sale process do provide for good reading.

Before I read this book I thought that when I sell my company, I will just do it myself. After reading these chapters describing all of the elements and complexities, I am rethinking my decision. It is not so much that each step in the process is something I could not do. It's just that many of the required activities will be my first experience and the consequences of not performing that step at the highest level could be costly. I will keep this book close by as I go through my business sale as the content covers the M&A process from soup to nuts. On a side note, don't skip the last few pages. They are worth ten times the price of admission. Thanks, this book was very timely.

I recently started to plan a selling strategy for my business and searched Amazon for books on the topic. I lot of what I saw had material that could be easily gleaned from the financial press and business shows. This book goes much deeper into the behind the scenes maneuvering between buyer and seller. From this book I now fully appreciate that getting interested parties to the bidding table is just the opening move in a strategic battle to wreak havoc on your company's valuation. This book provided me with valuable education and examples on buyers tactics and how to defend my selling price from start to finish. I wish I had found this book long before I decided to plan my exit but am glad I found it now- it is well written and will walk you through the whole process.

Dave Kauppi does a remarkable job of sharing invaluable experiences in Selling Your Software Company. The M&A principles explored in this book are beneficial to all deal professionals and would be sellers of any type of business. This is an absolute must read for anyone participating in the sale of a privately held business.

Very informational. I like the book as it has a lot of detailed examples and provides great knowledge of the software sector. Although some chapters have overlapping content, it is a good book to read and helps me better understand the industry.

Innumerable times during my childhood people told me that my father looked like Paul Newman. When we were in public with my father, people would nudge companions, point in our direction and move closer...just enough to see that my brunette mother was not Joanne and we three brunette girls were NOT Paul Newman's children. Paul Newman was a favorite actor, philanthropist and political supporter in our household. But, I knew little about the chronology, ideology and philosophy of this most extraordinary man of modern twentieth century America. I decided to read this book in memory of my deceased parents in order to learn more about this famous actor and his life. I never expected to learn that my father and Mr. Newman shared more than similar looks and "those blue eyes." Many of the major characteristics of the famous man were also those of my blue collar father who worked incessantly to achieve white collar status. The insecurities and work ethics as well as similar vices and demons were uncanny. Both men spent many years with boyish appearances and died accepting the changes in their appearance to old men which I think was somewhat difficult for them to view in the mirror. Although my father never had Newman's wealth or fame, he devoted many hours to volunteer work and seeking an equal education for my developmentally challenged sister. If you grew up in the fifties and sixties you may be surprised to read this biography about the man behind the actor and his hard work to be the best actor in a role. Race car driver to family man, you may see someone you knew during this same time period other than the great, famous actor, Paul Newman.

I’ve always been a fan of Paul Newman. He seemed modest and likeable and un-Hollywood. But I had no idea how many lives he touched. He was someone who deserved his luck because he shared it. When he and his friend started the Newman’s Own food brand, they didn’t know it would be so successful and decided to put all the profits into a foundation. Over his lifetime, Paul Newman donated to the arts and scholarships, political campaigns and causes, but most impressive of all, he created his Hole in the Wall camps for terminally ill children. Not only did he fund them, he participated often visiting the children. This book is about his life, his film roles, his interest in racing and his charity work. He wasn’t perfect, and it was interesting to read about his childhood, his relationship with his father, his flaws, his famous friendships, his marriage and his kids. It’s a well-researched book, very thorough. The first 14 pages were unnecessary but once I got past that, I was riveted. I wish there had been more photos.

For more than 60 years, Paul Newman was a star, a deeply devoted husband, a conflicted father, a race car driver and sponsor, a hellraiser, a food company entrepreneur, a loyal supporter of progressive politics and a philanthropist who gave away hundreds of millions of dollars. The book offers insight on his life from Newman his self, his collaborators, children and film critics. All in all, this paints a portrait of a guy anyone would want to hang around and down a couple of Coors with.

Who hasn't swooned over that gorgeous man with those electric blue eyes? ! He is such a legend in the film industry. He is famous for being a perfectionist in acting, directing and producing. I knew of several of his humanitarian projects and programs, but did not know the extent of his generosity and personal efforts. Such worthy causes. It was known that he dabbled in other things, such as NASCAR, but I had no idea that he continued to compete and win into his old age!It was interesting to read about his family life and friendships over the years. I especially enjoyed the parts in which he shared details about the filming of some of his movies, giving details of working with and joking around with fellow stars on the set. Glad I read it.The book is a comfortable read and was an honest look at the good and the bad of his endeavors and choices. He never felt he had done his best, and always expected more of himself.

It was good, but I would have preferred an autobiography (written by Paul himself). The author didn't give me a complete inside flavor to his personality, and sometimes his writing was too impersonal, probably because he didn't know Paul and all he did was research him. I was hoping for more of a WOW factor, like I've found in some other biographies of celebrities... But it was interesting, nonetheless.

While reading the biography of Paul Newman, I was reminded of the line in John Legend's song "All of Me", I Love You For All Your Perfect Imperfections". John' words are for his wife but they provide a good description of the many roles that Paul Newman filled throughout his life: Husband; Father, Grandfather, Actor, Movie Star, Sex Symbol, Entrepreneur; Film Director ; Activist; Champion Driver; Championship Team Owner; Oscar winner; National Treasure. In many of these roles he had failures and challenges but he learned from them and always strove to be better. His greatest joy was taking the "luck" that he felt was afforded him and sharing it with others and the best example and the one that he was most proud of was his founding of the Hole in The Wall Gang Camps for disabled children.

My generation grew up with Paul Newman onscreen. Married to the incomparable Joanne Woodward. On race tracks. Seeing Newman's Own products, eventually, in grocery stores. So, to some extent, you think you know who Paul Newman was. But this biography makes you understand Mr. Newman more deeply. His attitudes, his friendships, his reasons for doing or not doing, well, many many things. It is one tremendously fine and honest tribute to a true mensch - a fine human being. I highly recommend it to anyone with the remotest interest in this great American icon.

Raymond Chip Tafrate, PhD, is a clinical psychologist and professor in the criminology and criminal justice department at Central Connecticut State University. He is a fellow and supervisor at the Albert Ellis Institute in New York City, NY, and a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers. He frequently consults with criminal justice agencies and programs regarding difficult-to-change problems such as anger dysregulation and criminal behavior. He has coauthored numerous books, and has presented his research throughout North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia.Howard Kassinove, PhD, ABPP, is a board-certified clinical psychologist, former chairperson of the psychology department at Hofstra University, and past director of their PhD program in clinical and school psychology. Kassinove is a fellow of the American Psychological Association, the American Psychological Society, the Albert Ellis Institute, and the Behavior Therapy and Research Society. The editor of Anger Disorders, he has published more than sixty papers, and has lectured widely in the United States, Europe, and Asia. Foreword writer Matthew McKay, PhD, is a professor at the Wright Institute in Berkeley, CA. This book is the best of its kind on the market. I am a psychologist who has worked for years in both the business and clinical realm. I have often had the challenge of coaching executives whose career has been stymied because of their anger and aggression, managers who are neither liked nor respected but feared because of their reactions, and employees who are on the cusp of losing their jobs because they lack the understanding and/or motivation to take responsibility for their angry responses. Historically, in all these cases, I had been forced to cobble together information from different sources in an effort to educate and support my clients; this book changes the playing field. This is the first book I have found that offers a comprehensive approach to changing one's anger responses, from offering a substantial education on the basics of anger, to a strong discussion on change readiness, to its 7 proven ways to change anger and ultimately living a happier life, this book has been long awaited and is a welcomed addition to anyone who has worked with angry people. Moreover, it is a gift to those people who have had difficulty managing their own anger. Whether they are currently aware of how their anger affects them and others around them, this book is an excellent tool to make them aware and create the opportunity to create change.One of the strongest facets of this book is its structure. It is broken down into 3 parts, each part containing various chapters that provide important information in easily consumed sections.Part I: Anger Basics. This section is among the clearest most concise and comprehendible reviews of anger and is broken down into 3 chapters.Chapter 1: Anger 101: Common Questions and Answers. In this chapter the strength and vast experience of both authors is communicated on this subject. The strongest parts of this chapter lie in the snippet examples used to illustrate different anger scenarios and the simple distinction made between anger and aggression. The latter is a distinction often difficult to communicate to some people with anger problems, it is well communicated here and certain to create awareness in those who have been unable to previously make this distinction.Chapter 2: Understanding Anger Episodes. This chapter begins with another snippet illustrating and anger episode and then offers a very strong structure for analyzing anger episodes. They offer a model that has proven to be effective, but the hidden treasure in this chapter is the author's Anger Thermometer. I have often had difficulty working with angry people who can only express their angry experiences as anger, without applying any distinction to matter of degree. This tool is an innovative way for people who have difficulty with anger to become more aware and be better able to define their experience of anger, a critical factor in remediating any anger issue.Chapter 3: Are You Ready To Change. This is a unique chapter in anger management books. It is particularly strong in its structured progressive approach to having the reader consider the benefits of changing their angry responses, bringing the reader to a necessary level of commitment to create change.Part II: Seven Proven Ways to Control Anger. The seven chapters in this section identify strategies and tactics, as well as give specific examples on how readers can better control their anger.Chapter 4: Avoid and Escape. Cognitive Psychology forms the backbone of this chapter. This should not at all be surprising given the background of the authors. Here they have provided a means for the reader to identify 6 types of thinking errors, offered a 4-step process in how to go about changing one's anger provoking thoughts.Chapter 7: Forgiveness. This is a particularly unique chapter in this book and is among the strongest in this book. With this chapter the authors have really hit-their-stride. They offer powerful examples of unforgiving and forgiving responses; compare and contrast forgiveness from a secular and religious perspective; and finally, offer a creative step-by-step process on how the reader can practice and achieve forgiveness. The closing snippet of this chapter is a particularly robust example of the power of forgiveness. It should be read and seriously considered by anyone who is stuck holding a grudge or who believes doing so is desirable.Chapter 8: Learn to Relax. No book on managing anger would be complete without a chapter on relaxation and its importance in the face of anger provoking situations. This chapter explains the importance of relaxation, gives specific detailed direction on how to make a relaxation tape, then offers 10 alternatives to progressive muscle relaxation. It's a well written chapter that reminds us that no matter what technique we may choose to use, learning to relax in emotionally charged situations is a requisite skill to be successful in our lives.Chapter 9: Expose Yourself and Reach Less. For some people, exposure can be a tricky proposition, particularly when not assisted by a trained professional. In this chapter, the authors have elegantly addressed when exposure should and should not be considered. They offer specific steps on how the reader can create an exposure experience in imagination, through hearing verbal barb statements, and in real life.Chapter 10: Express Your Anger in an Assertive, Productive Way. This is another one of the strongest chapters in this book. Reading this chapter is like walking down a path with well-marked signs along the way. You don't have to worry about getting lost or missing a turn because the authors keep you well informed every step of the way. I particularly liked the author's formulation of assertive, verbally aggressive, and unassertive responses. The reader also receives valuable instruction through the explanation that assertiveness as well as the acknowledgment that assertiveness doesn't guarantee a particular outcome, it does however increase the probability of a more desirable result. Finally, acknowledgement that assertiveness is to be practiced as a lifestyle gives readers a real feel that they have a chance to change their lives.Part III: Other Issues. This final section includes two chapters that can be seen as follow up and maintenance steps for readers.Chapter 11: What If I Still Get Angry? This is an important chapter that provides a self-assessment, an analysis of factors that may limit one's progress, and a list of alternative resources where readers can find additional help. The chapter is brief and content rich.Chapter 12: Live a Happier Life. This is an excellent chapter to help the reader move beyond anger reduction alone. It is an abridged summary of what is offered from Positive Psychology. In keeping with the all the previous chapters, it offers 9 specific and detailed steps to lead a happier, more fulfilling life.This book should be considered a must read for anyone who has ever had issues with anger or anger management. It would likely be helpful to those people with partners or family members with anger issues, as well as therapists who would like to offer their clients concrete and specific guidelines on how to better manage anger. It is well written, clear, instructive, and offers information in a well thought out format, unlike many books in this genre, and offers a structure that can easily be applied. Great book that's easy to read and contains some wonderful tips on controlling and understanding anger. I really enjoyed the 2nd half of the book with the more in depth info. I suggest buying this along with Anger Control Workbook or The Anger Workbook

I bought this for a family member and decided to read it first. I found it incredibly helpful and thought provoking. I highly recommend this to anyone who has ever thought about better understanding their anger....the causes and what they can do about it.

I highly recommended this for anyone with anger issues. It was simple to read, the pages have large font, it has a lot of exercises and pages to copy to use it as a workbook. It even has relaxation techniques. I found it practical, easy to follow, and helpful.

This book has helped me identify my anger patterns and find the best solution to help me improve my reaction to these triggers. I just finished the book and am already noticing a difference in my stress levels.

This book has been really helpful in my vicarious trauma class.

This text is a easy read and the quality of the book was in good condition. Seller mailed out my text in a timely manner and the listed price was more than reasonable.

I never really finished reading it. It is just too specific and exclusive. I use it to appear well read and to make allusions when i want people to understand that their way of compassion is just too seethrough and more a hypochritic action than anything else.

Designed as help for the therapist, it is also appropriate, and may be as or more important, for helpers who happen to be mothers, spouses, children, or even friends who find themselves suffering from the personal after-effects of being around physical, mental, emotional or psychological trauma of others - acting as mediators, menders, negotiators, and/or reservoirs of the pain and troubles of others. They may also need to address their own baggage of current or distant pain caused by disruptive circumstances in their own past to complicate the difficulty of handling multiple sources of distress and stress. Seen frequently in domestic violence situations, or arising from elder or ailing parents, or in trying to accommodate severe illness in anyone close to them, long term stress becomes the distress of psychological trauma. It may or may not be recognized by others, at work, or by those who are in a position to give relief. It may or may not be a known fact within the family where caregivers rarely allow themselves to acknowledge being weak, or in needing services themselves. Left unattended, the helper may become the person needing help, often some time beyond the time that help is being given (in the form of an aftershock) which may or may not be seen as having come from overextending themselves in serving the needs of others. Rescuer's remorse, it might be called, to identify the time when caregiver's come to assess the harm done to themselves and the need for recovery. It usually follows burn out in time when adjustment and incentive may be lacking with the realization of being psychologically or emotionally spent as well as physically tired and fatigued. It also happens to children (when in orphan situations, or even in single parent families) where they have been a primary emotional carrier of siblings, or younger children, a source of support for siblings, or even parents, in daily or sporadic struggles of emotional trauma. Often, refusing to give in to the need they also require for care, support and affection, they develop an overdeveloped sense of the "atlas-syndrome" where they cannot allow themselves to give in, for recognizing their own weakness, realizing they may not have a resource to turn to in that event. In denial of their own weakness, they forge onward without acknowledging their need for affection and solace. While admirable, it is also self destructive, however necessary they feel it to be. Long term deprivation of their own needs can have difficult emotional, physical, emotional and educational ramifications in addition to social consequences inconsistent with their desires and their intention to attain their own extraordinarily high defensive standards. Failure of society to recognize this vulnerable class of persons usually means that they are misunderstood, devalued, and may be mis-classified as social misfits rather than the begrudging individuals they are who willingly adopt the problems of others, sometimes to their own detriment.

This is a good introduction to "compassion fatique". For years we have known about burn out, but this is far more. The field is just now considering the possibility of secondary PTSD/O, but many of us, who have worked with trauma victims, have seen the signs of copassion fatique. As a supervisior, I have dealt with counselors and psychologists who work with trauma vitims who display copassion fatique. I recommend this book as start in the study of compassion fatique.

Figley stands out as a pioneer in compassion fatigue studies. This book was essential to my literature review for my Master's research paper and the work I did in New York City as a Red Cross caseworker in response to 9/11.

This is essential reading for therapists working with clients who have serious trauma in their lives. The book explains about "Secondary Traumatic Stress Disorder" which can depress and debilitate a therapist exposed to their client's trauma because of their own empathy and compassion. If you find yourself sobbing and depressed from the terrible things that your clients are going through, this book will be of invaluable help.

I never knew this ailment existed. The author has done much research and presented it very clearly. I could not put the book down once I started reading it . I also read it twice. I look forward to the next book of treating compassion fatique.

Overall, this book would be great for someone who needs an introduction to the issue. I enjoyed reading “Why We Drop Out?” because it gave a story to the countless numbers and percentages of people who do drop out. It could teach empathy and allow teachers to think about students as people with real lives rather than just a brain to soak up information. I would recommend this book to a beginning teacher to know that they may be able to impact and change someone’s life by just being observant.
